Remember back when cartoons used to be in black and white and didn't talk? Chances are you don't remember because you weren't around back then. Granted, neither was I, but they still have a certain charm to them that later animated works lack. They just don't make them like they used to...but what if they did?

Yep...the Silent Era!

I consider the 1930's Popeye, which were early "talkies," to be the epitome of cleverness.

The link to Sonic did not work for me. Hm. The other ones are wonderful. Thank you for posting those.

Oh, wait - I'm not sure if Astro Boy was an American cartoon based on a Japanese show, or a Japanese cartoon dubbed for English speaking audiences...

Sorry about that, dossa. I must have made a typo or something when making the post, so here's the real link to the first image. Oh, and you're welcome!

The latter would describe Astro Boy. Even if that show was made in America, I think it utilized limited animation. I wanted this thread to focus on images and animations relating to the style of black-and-white, rubber-hose-limbs cartoons.

Cuphead isn't monochrome, but it otherwise has the look of an old-school cartoon short.

Well I don't remember when they were still being made since, like you said, I wasn't born yet. But I saw quite a few of them on video when I was a younger, especially the Disney ones. And even when I was really young I loved and appreciated them, and this was back in the 1980's-90's. "Classic" does not merely mean "old", but something that is just as enjoyable as it was back when it was first made. But the modern animation people seem unaware of this. They think kids only like stuff that's dark and edgy, so they come up with stupid remakes of classic characters like Toonatics Unleashed - where a boy claimed he disliked the original, more darker-looking character designs! :P
