Internet crushes
I'm crushing big-time on someone over the Internet... been in love with him ever since I stumbled upon his profile on Neopets, around the time I started to be interested in boys. The problem is, he's at least 25 (much older than me), married, and has kids... yet he seems to have everything I want in a guy. He hasn't posted any photos of his real self, but has drawn a somewhat realistic self-portrait before and draws little cartoons of himself all the time, so I have a mental picture of how he looks. I seriously don't know why I'm drawn to this guy, when I have barely any information about him. Hell, he could even be a 50-year-old dude named Bob who lives alone and is so bored he makes up all these fake Internet personas.... but I'm in love with what I know of him, and I really don't know why.
Anyone else had any experiences with Internet crushes, or is it just me?

I get internet crushes as often as I get real-time crushes.
I mean Kjas, Vigilans, Tyri0n, Hyperlexian etc.
I have crushes all the time but they generally aren't like serious feelings. Honestly it's almost chauvinistic, like I want to make out with those people. SPEAKING OF CRUSHES, mine is picking me up in ten minutes to go to a thing.
SO THIS POST IS SHORT AND SUCKS and I'm sorry you have a crush on that guy and uh... good luck deciding what to do about it.

So that's your harem! Not bad...not bad at all
Um...
*Refers to my custom title*
I highly doubt the validity of that statement.

Thing is: even with pictures and stuff its too easy to form an idealistic view of somebody you met online.
Why?
Most likely the people you meet offline :
a) arent the kind of people you would be interested in
b)arent interested in you
And you need an scape from this reality.
Anyhow it is not safe to have a crush on a married person for years.
It is a way of preventing yourself from actually meeting someone, while this may help preventing short term damage it makes a great damage in the long term because when you feel ready for an actual relationship you ll find out that you are x years and you have spent the last y years just obsessing over this guy that was unavailable so you have no idea how to approach someone and so on
I'd say, it's already easy enough to form an idealistic view of someone you see everyday in flash and blood...
Really, I'm with those against. Merely because people are already good enough at faking without the protection of a screen. I'm not talking about someone claiming to be a 23 years old girl actually being a 54 years old man, I'm pointing at how easy people use their poker face in Real Life (like telling you you're special then cruelly make fun of you behind your back) how can you trust someone behind a screen?
If you're like me you'll try to answer that you're not good at reading people anyway, still in RL someone close can read them for you, whereas on the net they don't have the tools either ![]()

I've noticed this myself from others who end up falling for me online because of my pictures. I know I'm handsome and all, but keep in mind that I have a personality that you can't fully see unless you meet me and get to know me in real life.

This is exactly how I feel... definitely need an escape from the unattractive guys at school. Though my interest in him has only just come back after being rejected by a guy I have a real-life crush on. Still, I don't obsess over him.

Internet crushes are like that buzz you get from the chasing game, except sitting on your ass.
There's an air of mystery, short-term entertainment and buzz around crushing on people on the net a bit like developing a personal interest in a new thing.
I tend to reserve my affections online because arguably you may never get to know the real person behind all the communications.
I'd rather let myself fall in love gradually once that person and I have had enough time to suss each other out.
All too often humanity falls prey to the instant gratification of the Internet and fail to look past the short term value, the false and pretensive charms a few of our Internet crushes might offer.
