NT girl here with an Aspie BF. We all know that Valentine's Day is fast-approaching. What do you guys think of Valentine's Day?

I've always liked it because when I was young my dad would bring me home flowers from work (as well as doing stuff for my mum of course). I know that sounds really strange but it always made me really happy.

Now I'm with someone I still enjoy it because I love having an excuse to buy/make stuff for people :D This year I'm planning to make my fiance edible dragon eggs from game of thrones or some other geeky treat!

Just ask him what kind of V-day he normally likes, he might want to do the whole hearts and flowers thing or he may be happy just exchanging cards.

Not a fan. I despise the overly romanticized nature of it. It just serves as an annual reminder of my own loneliness and makes me twice as jealous of couples.

Likkewise.

Always reminded me that I'm on the outside, looking in.

I don't like Valentine's. My grandad died on 14th Feb and that day always reminds me of him. I'm also not a very romantic person, so all those tacky flowers, hearts, bottles of pink Lambrini make me a little sick :D

NT female here and I think it's a load of tosh! Also, too much pressure put on males with regard to Valentines day whereas it should be a two way street.

I've never liked it all that much. The idea of commercialised romance doesn't sit comfortably with me. My NT husband and I don't celebrate it.

I spend the day in retrospection of how humans can "love" each other for one day, yet spend so much of the year hating each other.

Conceptually 100% agreeable although the more I think about it the more I have no idea how to answer your question. I've done a few things for the occasion before & still I don't think that pushed my opinions either way.

I don't mind it these days but I'm a bit of an anomaly in the sense that I am the kind of people who prefers to look for work-assignments to continue working throughout the holidays instead of spending it on any vacation.
Less-experienced Aspies are definitely going to be affected by it due to being bombarded and surrounded by virtually everything about society making them believe that everybody else has a partner except for the Aspie.

Nothing, because we don't celebrate it in February but in June.

I collect cuddly toys and so I like that there are new ones in the shops. :D

The only time Valentine's coincided with me being in a relationship, I was with someone who didn't believe in celebrating it. I felt very sad about that at the time. Since then I've pretty much ignored it.

I think it's pointless. It's just another "Hallmark holiday", made to sell chocolate, lingerie, and gift cards. It also doesn't help that it's part of my least favorite month of the year.

Before V-Day arrives, I should probably point out that since you are already part of a relationship with an ASD, I «predict» that he will probably choose to spend time with you on that day some-how. You also need to keep in mind that, when you ask this sort of question on some kind of on-line forums or message-board, full of Aspie-oriented people, without being specific, you are likely to get answers from mostly single-Aspies.

Just pointing out something that you've missed in communication; the vast majority of Aspies in the world are going to be single, not in a relationship, without a partner or any partners, due to being mostly late-bloomers.

That is not to say that Aspies in relationships on these boards are non-existent, but they're the minority, and even in the «after-life realms» according to research-documentation, only a very small percentage of «spirits» ever participate in the activity called romantic-relationships. You might have gotten more «targeted» information/responses if the thread-title started out : «Question For Aspies With NT partners...»

Even when I was single, I enjoyed a day that celebrated love. I'll agree I don't like how commercialized it is but just like other major holidays it's the core of the reason for the holiday that I enjoy.
