Our privacy on the internet has been lax since its conception.

And Obama won't "shut down the internet." He's smart enough to know that would be a horrible move on all levels.

So this amounts to nothing. Don't panic.

1. Stop this promiscuous capitalization.

2. If the Internet is shut down your privacy is guaranteed. No one can overhear a conversation or communication that does not happen.

President Obama is way too smart to shut down/jam Internet signals.

So have no worry about it.

This is a joke, right? It couldn't be funnier if it was... The idea that there would be no one along the way of passing such a law who might say, "But wait, we can't shut down the internet, because that would be bad," is ridiculous. It's like suggesting that the president, whose power is limited for a reason, could be given the power to turn off TV, or close all the roads in the entire country on a whim. And doesn't the current guy have kids at home? Yeah, he won't be shutting off the internet. Spend an hour in a dark, quiet room and you'll feel better.

Its no joke.

We cant sit back and say,"oh they wont do that". It gonna happen if they decide to approve this bill.

They are using the grounds that we need more internet protection from terrorists.

Our country's infrastructure is very linked with the internet these days and now they think its not safe.

So these 2 bills are going through. 1 will make it perfectly legal for the government to check all your emails and private data if they deem it necessary, without a warrant!

The second will give the executive branch (the president) the power to completely turn off the internet in the event of a cyber terrorist attack.

Its is good that they are trying to protect our country from this apparent vulnerability. The problem is that this power can and probably will be used for censorship and other things.

Sounds crazy but sadly this is real.

Bill S.773
This is in SEC. 18. CYBERSECURITY RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY.

(2) may declare a cybersecurity emergency and order the limitation or shutdown of Internet traffic to and from any compromised Federal Government or United States critical infrastructure information system or network;

IMO what Obama and his puppet-masters are really concerned about is nationalist and anti-globalist sites. Radical Islamic sites are probably in second place. They'll probably make a load of noise about protecting society from paedophiles as well, but don't believe it.

Anyway, frauds like Alex Jones will be safe.

Please vote against the Cybersecurity Act of 2009 to preserve civil liberties. The federal government has already seized and destroyed the rights of many people on the internet. See the disputed status of Lolicon in SCOTUS, or the RIAA and MPAA's influence and ability to get away with racketeering. I urge you to stand by the remnants of freedom and oppose this act.

The fact of it is, even though if the U.S. President had the power to shut down the internet, it would be a very bad idea to do so. This is because currently almost every major U.S. industry relies on the internet to some degree, and some industries would be totally up the creek without a paddle without it. Therefore, it would be something that would completely ruin our economy. Now I can understand if the President was given power to shut down the Internet TEMPORARILY in case of a large scale cyber attack; however, there would need to be limits as to how such a shutdown could be initiated. I propose that such an emegency Internet shutdown should be given the same required authorization as a nuclear strike (which requires an executive order from the President along with a confirmation order from someone important, such as the VP or the Secretary of Defense), because shutting down the Internet, even on a temporary basis, would be effectively nuking the U.S. economy and infrastructure.

I assume this would be a temporary measure. But it is not a good idea to do this at all. it is a power that would be all to easy to abuse.

1. Take away people's right to arm themselves.
2. Destroy financial institutions to a point where the government assumes controls
3. Regulate virtually every industry
4. Destroy capitalism
5. Remove dissent
6. Censor free-speech

Once those five have been achieved the United States will transform into a Communist country. But wait, there's more...

7. create a security force that answers only the President

Congratulations: welcome to Nazi Germany...

I wonder if anyone really understands what's going on? :(
