Been a while since I've been back here, other than yesterdays post.

Feeling very isolated here in Batemans Bay, after moving from Melbourne, and thinking of restarting a previous project to provide a social Aspie site for Ozzies, and Kiwis if they're interested. I have the following domain names registered - adult-aspies.net, aspergies.com, aspergies.net and spectrumdwellers.com. Could register adult-aspies.com.au, or adult-aspies.org.au if considered more relevant.

Not really kosher to advertise a social meet up site for Aussie and Kiwi Aspies here, but..... I don't think Alex would object if the sole purpose was to enable Aspies here to become less issolated.

I run a quite large phpBB 3.1 forum for aviation retirees and interested parties, and have a commercial hosting resource available. Happy to take input on choice of name and format. Have designed and run forums and the like for many years, so no hassles in setting up another.

Alison

Ah yeah, an AU specific site - that could work well.

Probably better to try and promote this section of the forums.
If this is struggling, I doubt a separate website would fair any better.

I think its a good idea - its at least worth a try. I definately feel very isolated although thats largely my own doing.

I think there's only 240 to 400 thousand Autistic people in Australia.

Might be better to focus on associated with introverts & introvert hobbies.
You might get some aspergers along (probably some undiagnosed too).
I know it seems difficult, but introverts have hobbies too.
A good way to start is by finding an online place where introverts hang out, then they have an occasional real life meet up.
I don't have trouble meeting people, but the NT's I come across are so fickle.
Presently I'm moving to an isolated area, just hoping some people out in small towns will be a little more honest.
Less mainstream. But I definitely hope to focus on universities or some Science Lab locations, to hopefully meet a smart introvert type in the future.

For me it's not the stranger danger thing, it's the too peopley thing  I don't socialize unless it's absolutely unavoidable. I love the internet because it means I don't have to interact face to face.

We have an Aspie social club where I live in NCQ but I've never attended.
Part of me is scared I won't know anyone and the other part is scared that I will. :|

Uhh, well I went to an Aspie meetup in Sydney a couple of weeks ago, without knowing anyone. And it worked out fine.

You'll need to overcome these "what if" thoughts if you want to meet new people.
