Has anyone been to an amish community? The amish lifestyle looks very "aspie-friendly" with all the simplicity, peace and routine. I definitely have an affinity with people who don't conform in life.

What does everyone else think?

Hard to say about that one. I grew up in an area with a large Amish population and I don't think it would work for an Aspie. Too much religion and social togetherness. Everybody knows everything about everybody in an Amish community. My Aspie brain can't accept religion and I am way too reclusive and private to be Amish.

And also they do so many children 8O

But, personally, I like a lot the rythme of their living: much more natural.

But aren't they against technology? I can't imagine living without my gadgets. I also don't like being told what to do and how to think. So I guess not for me.

If you can't conform to the Amish social structure, though, you'd have a very difficult time living in an Amish community. You might even risk being "shunned" if you are unable to follow their rules.

I've actually been in amish communities and even though I'm not religious, I've found myself more comfortable around them than other religious/non-religious people.

Also the work they do is somewhat confined but there doesn't seem to be this pressure to be overly extraverted or to multi-task via communication. But I guess it depends on where you live and the type of amish people you meet. All in all, I've found them to be much more pleasant than most occults....

Which can be rather serious. About five years ago there was a rash of drive-by shunnings in the vicinity of Lancaster PA.

An employment agency once asked me "What do you do if your coworker is angry with you and ignoring you?" and I said I wouldnt likely notice and if they were leaving me alone I would be happy and assume everything is well.

I don't think I would last long in such a community.

Today I was walking/hiking in nature with my better half and her mum. We were sticking to the main trail which followed the local river. At one point the river was slower then a dead rock, and there was hardly any noise. That is natural for me, not people who are simpletons that think conformity and Jesus are a must.
