Empathy is such a strange thing. It's something I rarely if ever experience with real people, either receiving or giving. Yet I can empathize with fictional characters extremely easily. I believe the reason is because of an underlying trust issue with people, unable to empathize because it always seems fake or for a higher hidden purpose, which is reason I can't give it either. But with a fictional character there is no hidden agenda or falsehood because you know the character inside and out because from a fictional standpoint you can see their mind from their perspective.

i dont know if i am aspie or not, but i do appreciate and detect genuine empathy/sympathy. luckily it's one of those things that is easy to spot fake. empathetic people are really amazing. and i love when people genuinly try to understand.

I do not expect or need empathy from others. If someone expresses it, thanks, if not, thanks for not doing it. Because some appreciative response is expected in exchange, I actually prefer people to mind their own business and leave my problems to me.

Another problem is that most of the time empathy is either fake or the result of an automatic response by NT wiring, just like sneezing in response to an itch in the nose. Appreciating something like that sounds ridiculous to me.

I'll act along, but the whole thing has the same level of desirability as fixing a clogged drain in a bathroom.
