Is PMS and periods suppose to be painful?
I never thought I'd bring this up into the women's forum but here goes...
Whenever I'm PMSing, the pain is great and I feel overwhelmed with fatigue and shakiness. Also the cramps can be very painful. In fact, sometimes I get so sick that I feel like vomiting and almost feel like it's impossible for me to function at work. Normally I'd take a sick day but this is PMS and it lasts over a period from 5 to 10 days depending. I've had people ask me and of course I'm not very open about telling everyone that it's near that time of month....
I read articles saying that they're not suppose to be painful or that the symptoms shouldn't be as overwhelming as they are. Well I've been checked and I seem to be fine.
Could this possibly have something to do with ASD as I often hear many ASD people complaining about other neurological sensativities such as noise and sensory input. Maybe something hormonal?
Does anyone else have this problem?

I don't have this problem, but I have heard of women having this problem. I don't know if it's AS related. Severe periods are not typical, some pain is normal, as are headaches, backaches and stomach upset.
It could be how your body discharges the blood. I used to have some pain (only for short times though) and my Mum said it was because the blood was thicker than usual, I don't know if that's totally true but it's worth asking about.
A hormone check is a good idea if you can get one (and think somethings wrong in that regard). Hot water bottles can sometimes cause cramps to ease a bit, and painkillers can help. I don't know very much about this (I know I should). A doctor might be able to assist. I used to eat some fresh parsley and that seemed to help me, but it could have been a psycological effect.
I hope you find a solution for this soon, it sounds very hard to deal with.
Wow, thanks for the responses guys.
I'll definitely look into seeing a doctor. I know that for me the bleeding is pretty heavy and painful. I've had people tell me I look anemic or something b/c my coloring becomes real palid and I start having cold sweats so yes it does worry me. However whenever the cycle stops, I stop worrying about it until it happens again.
