Matter of fact, it's what I do best.

Spencer on Criminal Minds does this. Of course he has an eidetic memory and I don't, but the blurted out facts that have everything to do with the subject but of course are too deep for the listener are something we have in common.

A googleplex is a number with google zeros. A parsec is 3258 light years. I like throwing out random facts, sometimes not at all relevant, sometimes relevant. My father said I was a pedant which is a person who is overly concerned with precision and formality or who makes a show of his learning. And that last bit may describe why I throw out random facts. To make a show of my learning.

I hope you won't mind if I'm a little pedantic here, but to clarify: A "googol" is a one with a hundred zeroes after it (10^100). A "googolplex" is a one with a googol zeroes after it (10^googol).

You could try to write out the number googolplex, but there are so many zeroes that they wouldn't fit into the known universe. (Paraphrasing a quote from Carl Sagan, in "Cosmos", which my then 4-year-old AS son watched obsessively for a year. )

I like googolplex. I even use it as a screen name in some places. :D

I love (what others call) "trivia." I only like "trivia" that causes one to become intrigued in the subject implied by it. In other words, inherently interesting. I try to avoid saying something unrelated to the conversation, but the connection may be hard for others to perceive. One does have to be careful not to come across as a know it all. I try to contain my inner Cliff Clavin.

Did you know that in my hometown right now it is a mere 29 degrees warmer than at the South Pole? That happens to be my current status on Facebook; I believe that answers the question for me.

The brightest star in Canis Major is Sirius and is located at 6hr 45m RA / -16 degrees 1 minute DEC.

But no, I don't just toss out random facts. What gave you that idea?

Yes, I love tossing out random facts. I don't know if people regard this as an endearing quirk or find it to be annoying (I know that if I get carried away, it IS annoying).

The slow worm (Anguis fragilis), a small legless lizard that enjoys eating slugs in compost heaps, is the most commonly encountered reptile in Britain. This species is thought to be highly intelligent compared to other lizards, and is long-lived as well. One captive individual lived to be 54 years old.

Only if questioned about my interests...then I will attempt to bestow upon the curious party everything I have in my head on the subject...which amounts to a bunch of random facts
