Jman, you make me homesick! (I'm originally from Bucks County) Now I want some corn chowder and apple butter on still warm bread from the oven! Followed by shoo fly pie!

There are quite a few interesting towns up there, my husband and I honeymooned in dutch country, and bought our son a tshirt that said something like "my parents visited Intercourse and all I got was this lousy tshirt" but on the back it had a cute smiley face and it said "but they got me".

As will you, if you don't get off before there.....

I love road signs... Australian road signs are obviously different to american ones... we have a list of how far each location is on that particualr road, and fascinating trying to work out the distances btw locations, and the speed u would have to travel to get there in x amount of time, and yeah.. always read the signs and point out where stuff we are going past is and people seriously tell me to shut up.i also use them and other things as land marks and go ok we are at this sign it will take us such and such amount of time to get to a certain place. i notice the new signs, and i notice when they ad or change stuff to them, or when has been knocked down. I would love to souviner one if i ever canm but they tend not to fall down lol...and they are rather large and green... pity...

I can identify *exactly* where every one of those Wisconsin BGSs ('Big Green Signs') are.

:D

BTW, know why those 'advance' BGSs on WI 441 in Calumet and Outagamie Counties all say "1 1/4 MILES"? They were installed right before the freeway opened in late 1993. This was during the latest abortive attempt to metricate all roadsigns in the USA, right before the Luddites in Congress stopped it, and that distance is very close to an even 2000 meters (2 km).

Also, Jman, you should get (or post, if you already have them) images of those complex steep grade warning signs on US 30 in PA.

My mother and I can crack each other up looking at road signs. Like "slow children playing," we have a joke about the kids being slow. I forget what the others that had us in fits one time were but they were real road signs that were just really, really dumb.

The one that I always think of whenever I see those 'SLOW/CHILDREN' signs (the ones with the running kid between the words) is the angry 30ish female bitterly complaining to the city council that "MY CHILD is not SLOW! !! !" :x .

The soccer moms crack me up.

My sisters friend called the cops and complained about people driving to fast on her residential street and added it was a school zone and she has 3 children.

So they set up radar and gave her a ticket for speeding down her street   plus they got her husband the same week out on the main road for driving past people on the right and than cutting back into line 8O

Lesson learned, don't call the cops and tell them they aren't doing their job, they will hand you evidence in writing and make sure they get the message through by doing it twice.

That phone call must have cost them thousands of dollars by the time the insurance company got done with them. Teenage drivers and a few tickets on their records for a few years 8O

Here's a FAQ on roads in the UK:

http://www.cbrd.co.uk/roadsfaq/

It's part of a wider UK roads site, and has links to other roads sites.
