I'm not dx'd. Still contemplating if I want to go through what this site describes as an agonizingly painful process. There are no AS specialists that I can find in my area.

I did not find it an agonzingly painful process at all. I found I went into a depression after the dx, but I have come out the other end of that (and I am used to depression as a co-morbid.) I am utterly relieved to have a diagnosis and it gives me a framework that explains most of the mysteries I had about who I was and how i behaved and what I am. It explains everything, from factual monologuing, sensory problems, overloads and rudimentary emotions, through to having to use particular cutlery of a very specific feel and weight, specific cups, wear specific clothing and toe walking in bare feet. IT explains my spikes in certain areas creatively and intellectually and it also explains certain deficits intellectually (maths for example.) It also explains my isolation, my inability to process information when in groups, my boredom with social chit chat.

It is a big relief.
