So who else here is a news junky? Not just someone who reads a morning paper, but someone who is obsessed with gathering information?

I happen to fall into that category. I'm checking one online paper or another almost every time I am on the Internet. I always like to talk about the news, although I find that people are not really receptive. The East Coast of the US is a major exception to this rule.

Newsy nose topic

I love news from all media: radio, television, web, magazines, newspapers.

Always something happening. And I need to know. :D

i'm a datawhore. i've come to accept that much of the data provided by the news media outlets is tainted by professional bias but it's probably better to be paranoid and look for bias everywhere than to be ignorant of bias.

Agreed. There will always be bias, if only because language is such a subjective game. In fact, what really annoys me are newscasters who pretend to be objective (or fair and balanced, for that matter). No one can ever be objective. Admit your biases, and the public will get higher-quality information.

I was really big on cable news during like 2008 for the election and for sometime after it but not so much anymore since it's pretty tough watching the news now without your head exploding. I mostly just read online now.

Keeping up to date on current events is a good conversation piece.

current american politics and news would be absolutely hilarious if it was a movie or a sitcom and not reality.

since it comes through the same media as movies and sitcoms, it's easy to laugh at it.

still kinda terrifying, when you think about it.

like........ .... ....these people are in charge? ....really?
and the other guys?.... ....the guys who would be in charge if these guys weren't?....
...
f***.

it's enough to make you wish those NWO conspiracy guessists were right.

You got my number! My wife and I have the channel on CNN almost all morning and afternoon, when we're home. Evenings, we tend to watch MSNBC, because it validates our commie liberalism. Then by midnight, after we have gotten our fill of entertainment, I'm back to the news, half listening while I'm writing. I might as well be put through some kind of sensory deprivation without knowing what's going on in the world around me, if I'm denied my news fix. Funny thing is, my wife used to hate the news. But since being married to me for nine years (plus living with me two years prior to that), she has become much more politically aware, and a news junkie herself.
