Now, I never do this, but find it downright arrogant the sheer number of people who absolutely insist on doing it. Sitting with their feet up on the bus seat opposite them, at the back of the bus, when there are signs right there on the back seats clearly forbidding them to do it.

It really pees me off when I see seats on buses, as frequently happens, that are worn down by people who absolutely insist on shamelessly breaking this rule by putting their feet on them, which also pees me off.

Sometimes there's an announcement by the driver to tell the person to take their feet off the seats. I don't show it, but when this happens, I feel a schadenfreude, especially because the person has been identified and shamed in front of the whole bus.

I don't do that in particular, but I often sit on some seats with my legs criss-crossed, with no shoes on, of course. :)

I also like to sit on top of desks rather than in the seats, but I only do that outside of class, during casual situations.

schadenfreude

What a great word! I'd never heard that before.

About the feet on the bus, people never cease to amaze me. I think it's because no one is taught manners any more.

I remember a guy on a train here put his feet on the seat (which is a fineable offence).
The inspectors busted him and he said "Oh S&^t sorry mate" and he got fined for the language as well.

Metro were planning some iniative about teaching passengers to behave better, but they are being careful about it because they don't want to be seen as blaming the passengers for the delays and cancellations that plague the system. (the government has not invested in it properly for years).

I ride mostly commuter buses so I manage to find a seat. However, if I'm on ones with wheelchair flip-up seats, the drivers haven't said a word to me about feet on seats - I do it all the time if there's a light load.

Here are the type of buses I usually ride - this is just an example.

I don't do that, because I don't like people doing that, to me.

When I took the bus, I did it. I'm not arrogant. I just couldn't handle some stranger sitting next to me.

Weirdly enough I do that when I'm at home but not when I'm on the bus, even though I feel tempted to.

Although I remember someone doing that and he was about my age too.

I sometimes do sit horizontally across both seats if the bus hasn't got many people on it and I don't want to sit by anyone. Doesn't make me arrogant, and I don't mind if other people sit with their feet on the other seat because they probably don't want to sit by anyone either.

What's arrogant is not so much the actual act of sitting with feet on the opposite seat.

Where I live at least - buses have signs clearly saying no feet are to be put on the seats and what's arrogant is the clear insistence to flout a clear rule.

*shrug* The same rule is spelled out on the public buses here. I really don't see the problem. Unless the bus is full and people are forced to stand, all you're doing is taking up two seats. If I didn't do it with my feet, I would do it with my purse. If the bus gets too full, I get off.

Really, what's the harm?
