I don't normally say anything if I see badly spelled or badly written comments on the internet. I'm not exactly Ms. Polly Prefect Proofreader myself. But if someone is being an ass, especially over someone else who they think is wrong, I might use their crappy spelling and grammar against them.

Yes, I agree with this statement.

Well, I have found you! I do recognise your avatar, but your username seems unfamiliar.

If I saw someone making a big deal over spelling and grammar people use or jumping on someone over it but yet they did a spelling error in their post as well or any other error, I might just point it out to them for laughs because oh the irony.

I nearly ended a friendship by correcting someone's spelling. Rather than deal with that kind of thing again, I gave it up as the sort of thing that caused needless faux pas.

A lot of people on the spectrum who I am acquainted with have difficulties with spelling/grammar.

The most common things I have noticed people on the spectrum struggle with are:
* The correct conjugation of words
* The correct use of pronouns
* Using the right words in the right context
* Stylistic difficulties, such as run-on sentences, punctuation, duplicated words in a sentence, etc.
Also, difficulties with syntax in general.

For some reason, I've always had difficulties spelling words that contain double consonants (i.e. Mississauga, accommodation). It took me two years to deliberately teach myself the spelling of the word Mississauga, and I've only grasped the spelling of the word accommodation several months ago. I always used to spell it with one "m". I also used to write horribly long run-on sentences, and on that I had to learn to catch myself doing it every time. I still duplicate words in sentences a lot.

It's probably those who have a specific learning disability who end up having difficulties with spelling and grammar. Since the brain of every person with AS/autism is unique, the way the brain ended up being configured in some people on the spectrum, Broca's area, which is responsible for the sequencing of speech sounds, or the right angular gyrus which is responsible for the non-verbal perception of the word, for example, may have been affected for that person in a certain way that has led to impairment in grammar/spelling.

Yes, I've always had poor grammar and spelling. Well, at least spelling. It drives my parents crazy and my mother even wants me to correct the spelling on my IM chats. My parents say it is not good for a future vet student to be a bad speller and I always argue that Wrong Planet isn't a prestigious veterinary journal and I put enough effort in correcting grammatical errors and misspelled words on my schoolwork. Wrong Planet isn't school work and people shouldn't be concerned about it. When colleges and universities check out your MySpace and Face Book, I think they are making sure you aren't a bad egg. I don't have either a My Space or a Face Book and if they checked my Wrong Planet entries I could always take them to court and file discrimination. I know people who really get their feathers ruffled when someone misspells one word and yet I've seen spelling mistakes in books, I am still irked over a greeting card that spelled meerkat with a C. It doesn't bother me when people here misspell words but then I am a horrible speller as well. My teachers were abusive to be about it. Learning disabilities such as dyslexia often come hand-in-hand with autism and on a forum that is supposed to be for supporting people with autism, it is unacceptable. Harassing someone for poor spelling on any forum is unacceptable, but super unacceptable on one for autism, a condition in which people with it often get harassed just for being themselves.

Sounds like general internet troll behavior to me.

When one trolls attacks another for something, the receiving party will try to find some fault in there posts and then attack them for that.

And when they can't find anything in the post to get mad over, the trolls resort to just attacking others for any spelling errors they find in the post...replying with something stupid like "well you can't even spell, you dumb whatever". It's ridiculous but typical stupid behavior of people who just want a quick reason to make themselves look "smarter" but in the end they are still acting totally moronic. It's also made even stupider by the fact that with chat terms like LOL or BRB, no one even cares for proper grammar or spelling anymore so why would people be insulting each other over this in an internet forum of all places? Who knows?

I am always afraid to post on any forums other than dyslexic forums
because of my writing skills. Unfortunately along with the autism I am
moderatly dyslexic (both formally Dxed) I just forget how words are spelt.
How things are spelt just slip away after a short time. Also having
had such a struggle with language arts I also have a defeatest additude
Truth is I guess if I was writing all the time I might get better at expressing
myself in words but it would slip away very fast.

I've struggled with poor spelling my whole life. I'm doing better now especially with the auto spell checker but I still thinks it's cruel when someone that genuinely has dyslexia or even ADHD gets targeted for their poor spelling.
I was even going to go this whole month not to correct a single spelling mistake but it was too hard. People make fun of you too much.
I hate how they assume they're trolls too. It's so easy to pick out a troll too. It's about context not spelling.
