i liked the old stereo equipment from the 70s and 80s, they had some neat features [EQ sliders, DNR for noisy sources, autocorrelation, fake stereo for mono sources, et al]. but your pioneer unit looks neat also. i believe you will have best results for surround sound if you don't just use 2 speakers for the surrounds but wire them so you can use 3 or 4, forming an arc covering the rear half of the listening space. as for the LCR, try putting your LR speakers close to the corners [not IN the corners as that creates a lumpy power response due to nulls caused by each corner side being the same distance], while putting the center above the TV set, and if you have wide-dispersion speakers, all the better to get that seamless surround sound that is so addictive when listening to music.

many years ago i worked part-time doing high end home theatre installations. several were 100,000 dollar range.

none were all that satisfying. i still prefer having a well equipped two channel system. when you get the speakers spaced properly and can sit dead center, the imaging makes the realism superb. only for one listener though.

rooms have such an effect on what you hear working out acoustic problems can drive you crazy. take your time and experiment with speaker placement. aunt blabby likes the surround effects where i'm more conventual. you may find you like your own sound field.

I eventually want to get a recivier that has Fiberoptic sound because not only my PS3 had a fiberoptic audio port my Laptop also does to. Another thing I have been wanting to add to my collection is a LD "LaserDisc" Player.

speaking of laser discs, the only ones i have ever watched were the ones my army recruiter showed me of the various army jobs i could sign-up for, i have never actually gotten to see a real movie on one. do they look as sharp as DVD?
