i liked the old stereo equipment from the 70s and 80s, they had some neat features [EQ sliders, DNR for noisy sources, autocorrelation, fake stereo for mono sources, et al]. but your pioneer unit looks neat also. i believe you will have best results for surround sound if you don't just use 2 speakers for the surrounds but wire them so you can use 3 or 4, forming an arc covering the rear half of the listening space. as for the LCR, try putting your LR speakers close to the corners [not IN the corners as that creates a lumpy power response due to nulls caused by each corner side being the same distance], while putting the center above the TV set, and if you have wide-dispersion speakers, all the better to get that seamless surround sound that is so addictive when listening to music.
