I wonder if anyone else is like this. I do have the usual wear the same clothes every day thing. But my clothing says a lot about my personality.
I hate dressing formal because it doesn't feel like me. I'm a jeans, band t-shirt, plaid button up, sports jacket type of person. The glasses and hair also play an important role. It's like I'm more a character from a movie than a real person.

So first question is: anybody else like this?

Today I got a bit agitated when I couldn't find any shirts to wear to this gig in a few days. I was definite about wearing a black shirt with white text reading 'REFUSED' (favourite band) and the other shirt was a Thursday (also a band) one. But my order wasn't in, so I went from shop to shop looking for Doctor Who or Nintendo shirts - nothing!
I'm like this a lot. If I don't wear a certain outfit at a certain event I get agitated. If I was a kid I'd have a full on meltdown.
Anyway I'm trying to work out my wardrobe drama. Anyone have a REFUSED shirt they can lend me?

Anyone relate to that second part too?

Yes. I like to wear the same or similar clothes everyday. I used to refuse to leave the house if I couldn't. I have this closet full of clothes but my wardrobe consists of the same 2 or 3 jeans and the same five shirts. The other day I had to wear a white collar shirt and a tie for a gig and suspenders..... I had to wear my regular shirt under my gig clothes and I ditched the suspenders because they were too uncomfortable. I had 2 months to prepare for the fact that I had to wear the shirt and tie ... other wise I wouldn't have even been able to play.

I just wear whatever's comfortable, which usually entails a cotton t-shirt and sweatpants. Maybe a blouse and jeans if I want to look nice, or a blouse, a skirt and heels on those rare occasions when I want to "dress up".

I currently only have one shirt that has anything to do with my special interests, but I plan on buying more for Christmas.

I end up wearing the same clothes and I also have a habit of wearing certain things on certain days. I have 8 Kinks T-shirts that I've made with transfer paper over the past 13 months. I also have a lot of loose fitting turtlenecks, a frilly shirt, five sports jackets in different colours that are loose and unisex looking with my red one being my favourite. I refuse to let myself wear bell bottoms, because I feel that they're too informal for my liking. I also stay away from tie-dyed stuff for the same reason. I'm a Kink. That's the way that I am, plain and simple.

I'd kill for a Kinks t-shirt right now. But I don't like blending in at show and this band is very similar.

Nope! I love clothes. I have to set out an outfit out the night ahead, or I will dither forever over what to wear! I have some similarity in my clothes; I wear a lot of black and I like loose-fitting pants (except jeans; I will wear fitted jeans), but not a whole lot. I do have two of one sweater, a pink one and a black one, because they are warm, comfortabe, flattering, and easy to dress up with pearls and nice slacks or down with my usual cross pendant and jeans. None of my jeans are the same pair; they all have different washes, different rises, different styles, different cuts, etc. Same with anything else I have more than one of, like sweater sets (great for teaching) and argyle sweaters. I would hate to wear the same thing day after day; I even have many different sets of pyjamas so I don't have to wear the same thing even at night.

I have been known to get stressed out if I plan to wear something and discover it's in the wash or otherwise unavailable for me to wear. That's another reason I lay out outfits the night ahead -- that way if I can't find the skirt I want or whatever, I have time to put something else together. One thing I hate wearing is panty hose. I will only wear the super-expensive kind from Victoria's Secret that actually feel soft and silky, and even then not often. Although I prefer skirts and dresses to pants, I prefer pants to panty hose!

Most people hate dressing formal.

When deciding clothing I consider the following...

Is it itchy?
Is it easy to wear?
Does it look appropriate for the function?
Is it affordable?

For certain events I generally don't have my heart set on one thing or another but I usually have a style in mind.

I always feel pretty awful about spending too much money on clothes..... I hate shopping. I think I can be slightly flexible on clothing if I have enough notice ahead of time.... but the thing that really really really I can't variate on is my shoes.... I wear the same shoes until they fall apart. and then I have to find the same exact shoes the same model again. or it won't be the same. it takes me forever to get used to a new type of shoe. :/

If I decide to wear something and can't for whatever reason I get upset. My wardrobe is very limited and I wear the same clothing for days so it isn't that big of a problem, however.

I love being a movie character and have my own unique style. I wouldn't want it any other way. Fashion is an art as much as anything else.

Can't help on the Refused shirt, sorry. Got rid of all my band shirts years ago (worn out). Iron Maiden, AC/DC, and Pink Floyd would be pretty retro now, anyway.

I understand what you're saying about dressing like a character.

I used to be extremely self conscious about my clothing because I had no idea how to assemble an outfit. I ended up in the typical computer geek uniform of khakis/jeans and a polo shirt - every day of the year. I met my boyfriend nearly 3 years ago, and he has truly exquisite taste. He has helped me completely revamp my wardrobe - including banning me from EVER buying anything from Ralph Lauren again, on the grounds that I've worn enough of his shirts to fulfill my maximum lifetime allowance twice over. So now, I wear more "interesting" jeans (Wow! There are other brands besides Levis! Who knew?) and really, really cool, flashy, high-style button down shirts. I do have a few that are expensive, but most aren't - they're just carefully chosen.

ANYWAY, to end the background exposition and get to somewhere near the point . . . my new style is completely different from my personality. Flashy, colorful, and cool. Those are NOT words that are normally associated with me. So, when I put on the clothes, I also put on a persona that matches them. I keep my head up, I walk more confidently, etc. I probably come across as an arrogant jerk, because I still don't acknowledge or interact with other people, but people seem to think that I must be "somebody" due to the (largely false) confidence that I project. And people generally don't mess with "somebodies," so I don't get hassled anymore. I still can't do smalltalk for crap, but my facade of self-assurance makes it, somehow, more acceptable for me to be a bit eccentric. My odd humor is more appreciated, for example. People really do judge on appearance, and if their first impression is, "He's got a really cool hairstyle and clothes. He must be a cool guy," then they treat you as cool, and overlook oddities as being part of your quirky coolness. I wish I had figured out that part of the game about 40 years ago.

As to wanting to wear specific outfits for specific events - I also understand what you're saying there. I HAVE TO do laundry tomorrow so I'll have certain shirts to wear Thurs/Fri/Sat for different Holiday stuff. This is fairly new for me, though. Until I got this makeover, the only difference in my daily attire was what color shirt I put on, so I'd just grab one. Prior to the geek uniform, it was jeans and a concert shirt, so, again, I didn't have to put any thought into it - just grab a shirt and go.

Wow, that was long. Sorry.

For years on end, after I got out of high school : suit, WHITE shirt and tie on duty at the U EXCEPT in summer, off duty in winter earth tone trouserings and for choice plaid flannel shirt,
summer LONG trouserings and LONG sleeved shirt [lightweight if possible. All shirts if not wofrn with tie buttoned to top. BROWN shoes [under extreme protest over a 20 year span I had two black pairs, hated and despised them.

Never had to deal with unavailability - did have to deal with crazy fashion trends like pegged pants, then bellbottoms, and excessively wide ties.

I hate shopping and I often buy f.e. 4 the same shirts when I decide to go shopping. So my look is similar most days. I don't have patience for thinking every day about clothes, so I wear the same 2-3 days. If something is dirty, I don't wear it and it doesn't matter I wear it only 1 day.

My clothes must be comfortable. I can't walk on high heels or stand the accessories. I prefer to wear clothes and forget them. I won't fight with bracelets, scarfs, belts, bags and other stuff.

My colours are black and blue, I look the best in them. I love when clothes are in industrial style, but it's rare in women's clothes, so I wear men's too.

I don't wear longsleeves, because I can't stand this high temperature at school. When I'm home, I wear some.

That's true but when people liked my outfits I didn't feel right in them. I prefer to be a rocker, sometimes even a punk rocker or go really oldschool emo which is V-neck jumpers and dress pants.
My hair style is usually messy. I've worn the same shoe brand for 5 years. I always get complimented on them though.
But that REFUSED shirt...do want. I hate it when things don't work out for me. I rather be myself at this gig rather than another person with skinny jeans, glasses and a scarf. The indie scene made my look conformist.

I understand what you are saying about people liking your outfits, I think. What it sounds like you may have been doing is, choosing clothes other people will like, rather than clothes you like, that others happen to also like. The style my BF helped me put together is built around what I like, first and foremost. Comfort comes first - if I don't absolutely love the texture of the fabric, I don't wear it. He, however, has taught me a lot about what colors and styles look good on me, and which ones to avoid. What we've worked out is almost aggressively fashionable - it looks very put together, but slightly over-the-top, and definitely NOT what everybody else is wearing.

As to looking like a rocker . . . I'm an old fart, so you and I probably have different ideas of exactly what that means, but I think I manage it pretty well. Think Steven Tyler and David Bowie - kinda glam, and not as young as they used to be, but pretty much the definition of "rock stars." Recently, I had a couple people pretty much freak out when I sat down near them in a park - they honestly thought, at first, that the Thin White Duke had just joined them! 8O It's hard, for me, to think of somebody who better combines "fashionable" and "nonconformist" than him, so I was quite flattered by the comparison. I can only wish I had his talent, though!

Dude.

Buy a white t shirt and a jumbo Sharpie and write "refused" on it. Then scribble in black all over it 'til it looks totally chaotic.
