Jimmy T Carter, 93, was reportedly just outside the front entrance of his Palmer, Georgia home when he collapsed late this afternoon. Medics were called and arrived on the scene within minutes. Reports indicate Carter was conscious though very weak as he was loaded into the ambulance and transported to an area hospital some ten miles away where his condition was described as serious.

Further reports indicate Carter was later transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, though those reports are as yet, unconfirmed.

In unrelated news, President Jimmy Carter has recently made news headlines by publicly indicating that current President Barack Obama will “lose in Afghanistan.” Such controversy has been common with Carter in recent years, including allegations a recent book he published was wrought with anti-Jewish bias. Carter strongly denied the allegations, indicating those parts of the book were ”misunderstood”.

Updates forthcoming as further developments warrant.

For the record, Carter was one of the worst Presidents this Country ever had. That said, I hope he turns out okay, I don't wish him ill.

Carter - Gute Besserung - got my respect as sincere, rare in presidents, but almighty few would shortlist him for greatest president. Not even himself, I suspect - I hope.

He actually does consider himself one of the greatest presidents in fact he is dellusional enough to think the reason he lost was because of a third party candidate.

My first reaction, on seeing the headline, was, "I thought Washington had been dead for a while now."

He was one of the very few Presidents (one of the very few leaders in history, for that matter) to have given up power voluntarily, when he could have been President-For-Life with no opposition. (Presidential term limits were introduced to the Constitution after the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt, during his fourth term.)

Don't feel bad - I would have thought it ought to be Washington except for the reports of his death.

I always thought the greatest US president was Abe Lincoln.

I mean, the guy was huge.

And from where do you glean this particular gem? Are you now clairaudient?

Now, here, at least, there is a basis for the factual component of your statement.

But is he truly delusional? A lot of the so-called analysis of this statement merely adds up the popular vote in the 1980 election, but it completely fails to look at the damage done to the Democratic vote by both the Kennedy campaign and by the presence of Anderson in the campaign.

How many Kennedy democrats stayed home on polling day? How many Dixiecrats moved to the Republican side because of splits in the democractic vote. These kind of soft issues have an important impact on results on election day. You cannot simply add up columns of votes actually cast on election day and pretend that this is anlysis without a consideration of context.

But don't let that stop you parrotting the messages of lesser minds.

Certainly tall.

Seriously, yes, big - but the point raised is not insignificant - Lincoln did not have to resist the temptation to be king / dictator.

With Lincoln, of course, getting assassinated means we do not know what he might have done with the rest of his presidency.

Lincoln was very tall. Taft was very heavy.

I figured the original poster had just missed the news of Reagan's death, given it didn't seem likely he thought Washington was still alive.

Kennedy was not a third party candidate, and the fact that he was able to mount a substantive primary challenge to a sitting president just illustrates how weak a president Carter was.

The Anderson campaign likely did more damage to Reagan than to Carter, as Anderson's emphasis on fixing the economic problems Carter presided over drew attention away from Reagan's plans to do the same.

Carter is right about Israel and Afghanistan, though, and he did do a good job at Camp David.

Thing that doomed Carter's Presidency was the Iran Hostage Crisis.
