i made this up in the shower. let me know what you think

you have a lenth. it is A long
you have a piece of Rope AB long

The rope can be folded 4 time then you are back to where you started

what is the lenth of B expressed in terms of A?

Hint 1. half the lenth of A is easy to find, as is one quater and one 8th.

have fun post and post possible answers and how you got them in this thread:D

I don't understand what you mean by this:

What do you mean, 'back to where you started'? You can't fold a rope four times and have the length be the same as it was unfolded. Unless you mean that the length will be equal to the original stated length? Meaning AB=4A? In that case, B couldn't be expressed as anything other than 4, and there would be no relationship between A and B.

You're messing with my head!

AB/4=A
therefore
B=4A

also

B=4

There's something wrong with this but I can't pick it.

rewording the question get back to you all soon

EDIT: the rewording so far

There is a length of A, and a rope which has a length of AB.

Then one folds the rope three times and leave a bit such that the folded bit covers the unfolded part and having the same length as A folded by 4.

express the lenth of B in terms of A

that should be it.

(thanks blearybram, i can do the maths but not the english... stupid language)

Now I get it.
What I said previously and also A = 1
B=4 and A=1 are the only possibilities I think. We're talking in proportions ofcourse, rather than measurements right?

Also, if you were in the shower when you thought of this then what length does 'A' represent? :lol:

sorry but thats not the answer......

and A represents the lenth of the waterproffing. i was looking at the door and figuring out the relative lenths of all the waterproffing... and it kindove popped into my head...

A=1 ?

B=5 ?

AB= A * B = 1 * 5??

I'm not sure if I understand the question. In any case – yay for mathematics.

I'm pretty sure I'm wrong by the way.

It makes full sense, then half sense, then quarter sense, then we're back where we're started, right?

well since it's a math problem, it makes sense to most people who like to solve math problems.

Maybe it would be good to explain this problem with an image.
