Is it possible for a person with AS to have more mood swings then average NTs. I sometimes can have mood swings. One time I got into an argument with my dad then became nervous. Another, I got upset over my football teams loss and flipped out weeks ago. I couldnt laugh it off for days.

I'm going to say yes because of the inability (or less ability) to control out emotions.
My emotions are always intense. But my mood swings have a lot to do with dopamine levels.
Too little I'm cranky, too much and I'm just too darn happy. Although I can get even more agitated, just in a hyper way.

I've heard of mood rings before. What's a mood swing? Does the seat change color according to the temperature of your butt?

LOLOLOLOLOLOLZ!! !!

A mood swing occurs when the person becomes mentally stable for one second and another second the person randomly changes their emotions for no reason. sometimes for the worse.

I was joking. The first thing that popped into my head when I saw the words 'mood swing' was a swing that changed colors like a mood ring. If you thing about it, an aspie thinking concretely would lead to a physical object before the abstract idea of unstable moods. I do this all the time. There is often some flash of an idea that I know from the context of the conversation is incorrect. Then I move on to what the intended meaning is.

I have more mood swings than the majority of the people that I know, due to my upbringing and the memories that pop up. I might be living next to an NT who has more mood swings, than I do.

I do this too, and it is the source of much of my humor.

The other day it was "flipping houses," that is, arbitrage. But you know exactly what crosses my mind every time. If I hadn't already known what arbitrage was, I have no idea what I'd think.

Unfortunately, I get mood swings but they don't happen often as they used to and it would be pretty normal for someone my age I suppose since I'm pretty much growing out of my adolesent stage.

I dont think anbuend was trying to correct you, I think she was trying to say that NT's have more mood swings than "any" sort of person be they AS or otherwise...least that was my impression.

Pensieve,

How do you monitor your dopamine levels exactly?

I understand the dopamine reward system, but, I don't think that you can be sure that only dopamine is the cause of your mood differences, or do you know something than I have missed?

I don't understand what a mood swing is. I'm happy if something good happens or I'm thinking about something good and not happy when I'm not.
