It's official as of yesterday, Friday, Keith Olbermann has left MSNBC. I will honestly miss the man who Faux Noise feared the most. My wife and I used to watch him religiously; not only because he was intelligent, absolutely hilarious, and just pissed off the far right, but also because, like me, he had been diagnosed with Asperger's. While others were critical of his rage and passion for liberal politics, I was able to see another Aspie, who the exhibited the same kinds of intensely focused interests as me.
Hope to see Keith again soon, where ever venue he takes next.

Seems like more than one person is stepping down lately. Larry King, Oprah Winfrey. Now, Keith Olbermann. Wonder why so many are calling it quits? Is it strictly because of wanting to do other projects, or are the ratings lower than expected?

Larry King is about 300 years old, Oprah is moving on to her own network, and Olbermann mutually parted ways/got fired/quit/whatever because by most accounts he was a very difficult person to deal with and the new management coming in didn't like him. Olbermann's ratings weren't bad but they weren't great either. The channel with the worst ratings is CNN.

Him being diagnosed AS is news to me tho. Where did you get that information?

Olbermann left/was forced out because he decided to abandon his role as a journalist (he was hired to do the evening news for MSNBC) in favor of aping Jon Stewart (and doing a very bad job). In the process, he completely debased himself and lost all his credibility as a serious journalist.

And now he’s fired.

Good riddance.

PS

I would not have a problem with him if he had stopped pretending to deliver the news and just become another commentator/analyst like Chris Mathews, Bill-O, Glenn Beck, or any of those other ridiculous zealots (at least they're honest about what they are). But he insisted on keeping up the pretense of being a real journalist, with actual integrity and I cannot abide phony, lying douche bags.

That's never stopped him before. I thought he would continue until he was too infirm to get to the studio and talk to people.

It's like she did that as a last moment act of desperation. She knew a couple of years ago she might stop doing Oprah Winfrey Show, so she wanted something to replace it with so she wouldn't fade into oblivion.

I didn't know he was on the autism spectrum until I read it in this thread. Maybe he isn't difficult, just liberal :D

I didn't know Olbermann was autistic. Is there an article/video that says he is somewhere? I would have thought that he would have gotten into a spat with Autism Speaks by now if he was ...

I remember reading it on various internet lists of famous people with Asperger's. They shouldn't be that hard to track down.

I'm sure the fine folks at Fox are just as sad as everyone else to see Keith go, I mean before him they had to make insinuations about the "liberal media" rather than just point.

Uh, they actually can just still point, MSNBC still has Rachael Maddow for instance.

NPR still has the woman said she'd stand there and laugh if Rush Limbaugh had a heart attack in front of her.

Anyways, while I can't stand Olberman, I won't wish the man ill. I hope he has a good retirement.

He not done yet. And MSNBC isn't as liberal as most people say it is.

Uh, it could also have to do with the fact Comcast is potentially buying MSNBC and they want to change up the coverage.

Please don't let MSNBC become another version of Fox news. One is enough.
