Saddam Hussein's Last Letter (let's analyze and discuss)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/6213119.stm
Was Saddam Hussein truly a loving and forgiving man full of mercy and kindness (as his letter implies)? Or was he truly a sicko who had no idea what love and compassion is?
Read the letter he wrote right before he was executed and then see for yourself if you can truly trust a man to be loving and compassionate just by reading what he preaches about love and forgiveness in his writings and letters.
Then think for yourself if you can truly trust that Yahweh is loving and compassionate just because of the words that He said in the Bible.
Do you truly believe actions speak louder than words?
EDIT: That's a lot of "truly", lol.
We never got to hear his side, did we? The trial was closed and his defence lawyers kept getting killed.
Then he was put to death with disrespect and contempt.
I dare say he was a "hard man" but under his rule the country was rich. Women had more rights than in any other Muslim country. The Sunnis and the Shiites weren't blowing each other to bits.
They had universal health care and a great education system.
Anyone could walk into a gun shop and buy a fully automatic AK47.
Can you do that in America? No. England? Don't make me laugh.
It was obvious that Saddam wasn't a nice guy at all. He tortured people and a lot of Iraqis hated his guts.
I hope you realize this isn't meant to be a discussion about politics (which side is right/wrong). It's more a discussion about psychology and how people tend to follow those who are good with words of love and forgiveness even if they're not loving and forgiving.

He tortured people? Shock! Horror! You mean like Bush and Obama?
I heard Obama's speech today. He is good with words too. By the end of the speech I was sure his nose would have grown so long it would have hit the back wall of the auditorium.

Stop turning it into a discussion about politics. Not everyone thinks America is so important that it has to be mentioned in every single thread.

Actually I am right on topic. You didn't mention religion. You said that Saddam was a bad man but a smooth talker.
I am saying that there is no difference between him and our last several presidents except perhaps that Saddam actually cared about raising the living standards of his own people.
Saddam was a secular socialist.
Likely something in between. People usually believe themselves to have noble motives, and in reality you seldom have anyone who is all good or all evil.
Of course.

Let it go, man. I never mentioned the United States in my OP ... nor did I mention George Bush or Obama.
What I did mention was Yahweh and the Bible. Did you notice that bit? Or were you too distracted by the glory of Saddam Hussein?

What the heck? Oh, I suppose you're trying to argue that because a tyrannical dictator of a desert wannabe empire got wound up when he realized that his time was finally over, that it implies that anyone who speaks compassionately is also therefore not in the same manner that Saddam Hussein was not. ... Right.... that so makes sense if you're on drugs, but not if your 'truly' sober....
Do you truly believe actions speak louder than words?
Ahh yes, you did mention Yahweh, didn't you?
Say, isn't he the guy who cursed Adam and Eve and all their descendants to Hell?
Isn't he the guy who killed every human on Earth except Noah's family?
Isn't he the guy who wiped out Babel and Sodom and Gomorrah?
Isn't he the guy who totally wrecked Egypt?
Isn't he the guy who killed half the followers that Moses took out of Egypt and then told the rest that they had to wander in the desert until they were all dead? Including Moses?
Yeah, I guess actions DO speak louder than words.

The point is that one should not BLINDLY trust any person to be loving and compassionate without checking for himself that he is as he says he is.
There's a big lesson that we can all learn from this.

Great, you're getting there ...

That loving and compassionate man had his sons in law murdered. Isn't he wonderful?
