Are you open minded?

I am curious as to what other people on here will say. I myself... I believe myself to be open minded.

I try to keep an open mind but on some things it takes a lot of effort. And sometimes I'm just more close minded.
I can be so open minded I can annoy people and I can be so close minded I can insult people without realising it.

I have an open mind, though every time I go out in the rain, it fills up and overflows.

Seriously though, I think science is awesome.. it just has the tendency of getting into feedback loops, wherein it only refers to itself (other scientific disciplines). So there is room for scientific curiosity and supernatural phenomenon in the same universe.

Yes, but others don't seem to think so.

I see myself as opened minded but some people don't think so. Why? Because I don't want to go to church or do religion? Because I don't want to change my opinions and have it be the same as yours? Because I don't understand everything and I had to ask to get an answer? Because I am not interested in reading about something? Because I am not interested in something and don't want to do it?

Okay some people have their own weird perceptions on what is open minded. Maybe I don't know what it means. :?

If I weren't open minded I would think I wouldn't accept anything like what people do with their lives that are harmless. I would make everything an issue that isn't my business such as sexuality or religion but of course everyone has some closed mindness in them.

I posted that video so that perhaps we would be on the same page as to what open mindedness is.

I have been furiously accused of being closed minded because of not sharing the same stupid opinion as another person.

things like recycling being pointless and pointing out it is not fair to make fun of gypsies springs to mind.

I'm open-minded because I accept other people no matter who they are. However, I always feel a little upset on the inside when someone's opinion is not my own, and I absolutely hate it when people try to tell me that my opinions are wrong because I get the impression that they think I'm stupid for having those opinions.

I did not watch the entire piece, but its beginning did not surprise me with its thought that an open-minded person such as myself cannot possibly actually be "open-minded" because I do not exclusively embrace its particular version of "science". Hence, I would say the producer/author of that video is not open-minded.

I'm open minded in a sense. I don't discount the possibility of things we cannot prove. Human history is filled with things that were though to be preposterous being discovered later by science. However I find it absurd to ask or demand others to behave a certain way regarding something that hasn't yet been proved because a given person/book feels everyone should. I can see the psychological benefit to those who believe in certain superstitions and respect that and if it's not something that causes me discomfort or goes against my beliefs I don't have a problem participating in it if it matters a great deal to someone I value. There's a scale to how open your mind is willing to be to what some people feel is 'clearly' fact but has no proof behind it, or if there isn't there should be. Past a certain point having an open mind to things that have no evidence behind them can simply make you a better target for people looking to exploit you.

Like you tell me you think that aliens are real. I can accept that possibility.
You say aliens can travel between worlds and have discovered us, yes I could also see that as being possible though starting to go into the realm of speculation.
You say the aliens walk among us, I personally can't see why they'd find us interesting and if you wanted to prove that I need something other than blurry images and you're kind of starting to worry me but yeah I suppose it is a possibility though I don't share the belief.
You tell me the aliens abduct you on a regular basis to probe you, OK, so my estimated time to the door is around 15 seconds, as high as 20 if someone gets in my way. Tough choice, bolt now or wait to see the mental train crash and burn?
You tell me the aliens put a negative energy field around us with their probes that causes us to suffer from mental and physical illness but your Great Leader has a machine that he can use to purge the alien energy from my brain and for a measly 2000$ I can be cured, yeah, OK, turns out it was more like 10 secs to the door, amazing how crazy can make you run faster.

If I wasn't open-minded, I wouldn't listen to YouTube.

But not when it comes to astrology :-P

I think most people would say they are open minded. Like when you ask people if they are above average in intelligence. Most people say yes, but by definition, only half of them are.
