Hello,

My name is Tom and I have Autistic Spectrum Disorder. I currently study Experimental Film Production at Staffordshire University.

I am doing a short film about the beauty of lights and how mesmerizing they are. This is due to my personal obsession with lights, which with some research I see I am not alone in the Autism Community.

I was wondering if people have the same obsession / fascination as me, and if they have a particular favourite light?

Any answers could help me shape my research and how my film turns out in the end.

Thank you for your time,

Tom

I'm mesmorised by lights too. Although too much light can make me feel ill, especially the flashing kind.
I love theatre lighting. Such a subtle wash of colour. I love gray lights. I suppose I like lights with more earthy tones. I have a camera lens that smooth out the background and when I take photos of blue lights I like how smooth the image looks.
I've also got a lot of LED lights. Blues and yellows are favoured over red and green.
I used to really love watching concert lighting change before I became sick. Epileptic.
I like low light, colourful but not too bright (prefer earthy tones), changing but in a more slow motion.

I have a preference for certain fixtures. Fresnels and ellipsoidal over parcan and scoops. Background lighting is nice too, like strip lights. But that was maybe a bit too specific?

Ever since I was a child upon first seeing Walt Disney World's Electrical Water Pageant, I have been fascinated with these lights. The music behind this was Perrey and Kingsley's Baroque Hoedown---performed on an electronic Moog synthesizer. My obsession with synthesizers began with this water pageant back in 1973.

I have a fascination with lights. I love things that light up (LEDs, little flashy rubber balls that I can't seem to find :( and toys and such). I used to have a laser pointer but no idea what became of it.

I watch this video countless times a year:

I thought I'd found a higher resolution version but perhaps I am mistaken.

I'm fascinated with neon, blacklight, and... weird, Tron-like things, haha.

OMG, that is one of my favorite videos EVER, and I too watch it a lot. I also discovered this one just this past December: , and I have yet to watch it all the way through without laughing until I have tears in my eyes, because it is just so over-the-top. (Caution: If insanely flashing/blinking lights are not your thing, I do not recommend watching the video.)

I have also been fascinated with black lights, neon, etc. since I was a little kid. I am now 45 and in my genetics class in college we are growing and studying small plants that have a GFP (green fluorescent protein) gene inserted into them so that they glow in UV light, and I seem to be much more excited about them than the rest of the class is.

Some of the new LED Christmas decorations are awesome, too, but way more expensive than I can afford. Hope the price comes down after a few years.

The toys that light up are a lot of fun, too. One of my friends and I are constantly buying each other everything from rings to pens to the flashy rubber balls to you-name-it. Good stuff!

I am hypnotized by fire. I could watch it for hours. The way that it moves just fascinates me.

Beyond that, I love small, colored lights. I am particularly fond of colored LEDs, especially the sort that you can turn on and off. I love light displays and fireworks. I love the Main Street Electrical Parade, SpectroMagic, and the Electric Water Pageant. I loved Tron Legacy; it was not a great movie, but the visual effects fascinated me. I remember the old laser light shows. Griffith Park once had a laser light show to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. That was one of the best nights I ever had.

I'm mesmerised by lights as well. I especially like blue lights, meaning I loved Tron: Legacy and I could just watch it for hours. I also have this blue lava lamp that is great to stare at and space out. Oh and I like bokeh, when lights are out of focus and become this circle, and I only recently figured out that if I take off my glasses I see bokeh and it's wonderful :D

I looked up bokeh because I had never heard of it before. That's pretty neat!

It also reminded me of these wonderful paper glasses I have that turn whatever lights you are looking at (especially Christmas lights) into angels or snowflakes or snowmen or whatever. I found a website for them: www.holidayspecs.comHoliday Specs The "click here for demo" box on the left side of the page shows what the lights look like through the glasses.

Disclaimer: I've never ordered anything through this site. I've always gotten my glasses in stores here and there, or via friends who do the same and pick some up for me. :)

Me to. I would stay there all day If I could. The same with Christmas tree lights I could (and do) star at them for ages

My dream is to go and see the Northern lights in the artcic circle. Now that would be something.
