Be due to a lot of undx'd running around making children who now thanks to modern Docs paying attention to HFA and Asperger's that they are easier to DX our children.

Uh...are you implying Aspies shouldn't be allowed to reproduce?

So... basically you're saying that better diagnosis and more people seeking diagnosis is what has caused a funny statistical blip that looks like a sudden increase in the prevalence of autism?

My grandfather had AS as welll as my mother. So in my case it is pure genetics.

If you mean that the ASC folks always existed in society and are only being recognized officially now (and so there isn't actually an epidemic), then yes, I think so.

There are tons of people out there who never heard of Aspergers then one day they read an article, see a blog, or like me saw a tv program about it like I did. I never heard of Aspergers until I stumbled on a tv show that talked about autism spectrum disorders. When they described the common traits I was like that is me, then it all clicked and I finally understood why I was so weird. With more public knowledge and awareness you will see more people being diagnosed.

That actually makes a lot of sense. I agree with this idea.

My mom thinks my dad has undiagnosed AS.

Hehe. Personally, I like the "too good-looking" theory:

http://www.haciendapub.com/comm21.html

Quote:
Autistic children are "often described as very attractive"(2); if a child is beautiful or handsome, then the risk of autism is apparently slightly higher than average. Attractive children elicit aggressive attention from adults. Suppose a small child, after a few minutes on a visitor's lap, has had enough and wants to be put down. That's fine, if he gets his way and gets socially handled only as much as he readily accepts. But if an unwelcome visitor insists on pawing him over and his parents tell him not to disapprove, then he will learn that his opinion in a social setting is worthless, and he has no defense if his personal space is invaded. Dissonance results from the apparently favorable attention plus the reminder of defenselessness. That dissonance discredits the child's emotional connection with the outside world.
