Autism and Glutamate Dysfunction?

Anyone know any more about this? If this is, indeed, the biological basis for ASD then it would explain a lot, particularly about cannabis & autism!
Yawn.
Yet another single-cause hypothesis. Just about everybody seems to have one, but nobody has any real evidence to back theirs up. I have seen nothing so far that would suggest to me that non-syndromal autism has anything resembling a single cause (especially not a "trivial" one like a chemical imbalance), and would be very surprised if one were found. It would be a bit like finding out that the luminiferous aether does exist after all - not very likely, because the available evidence points in the opposite direction.

I also have a idea on causes of autism/asperger's but it explains the cognition part and not the neuronal and genetic basis.

I didn't interpret it that way. It seems to be suggesting that we (autists) are a different kind of human in the dietary sense. Just look at the animal kingdom to see how many different causes of 'carnivore' or 'omnivore' there are!
So genetically, there are 200 different ways to end up with the 'opposite' of the 'average' between 'schizophrenia' and 'cancer' which is 'ASD'.
Just a woolly hypothesis.
I'd be interested to know how autistic people differ from NT's in our perceptions of Umami and sweetness?
You wouldn't necessarily notice anything dietary. 60% of autists have some kind of diet thing going on, maybe the other 40% don't have, but still have the underlying difference in glutamate function.
Do you like Umami, and do you find you have less craving for sweet things when you have had plenty of meat?

I don't eat meat or get cravings for sweet stuff very often. When I ate meat, I didn't have cravings for sweet stuff because meat made me feel bloated. I don't really eat many sweets except candy and ice cream. I can turn down desserts so easily! People are always SHOCKED when I turn down desserts, they say things like "WHAT?" and "REALLY?" and "Why not? It's free with 2 meals tonight." then I say "I don't like desserts" then they say "Wow! You are so lucky!'. Well, I still like salty food like chips.
I am still unsure if the diagnosis is right, so............
Feeling bloated after eating is a food allergy. I'm aspie and obsessively researching nutrition for over 15 years.
Most of us are allergic to foods & we have no idea. We think anxiety is just stress but it is also a food allergy.
I get anxiety from eggs. I also get angry and have yelling fits after eating eggs for a few days.
panic attacks from coffee, and also from preservatives in foods. Artificial colors are petroleum based.
My sensitivities changed after a took out my silver mercury fillings so my belief is the mercury ruined my liver (which is a highly known side effect of mercury poisoning along with excessive shyness).
It is very common that autistic people have more food allergies than most people and most Autistic people dont realize it. They just think it is an autistic symptom.
