Sandals & Socks not Flipflops??
I wore flipflops once when I was about 10. I stubbed my toe on an outdoor step and didn't realise I'd spliced the bottom of my toe, until I saw the blood all over the flipflop. My Mum nearly fainted. I haven't worn any silly shoes since that day.
I can never decide what to wear on my feet in the summer, if I'm wearing short trousers or shorts. I tend to wear trainers (sneakers) and the short socks designed for that purpose. I hate the feeling of any kind of shoe against my skin. I'd love to wear a loose short skirt, but I think I'd look ridiculous with trainers, especially as I have short muscular legs - they'd look even shorter. I also have a very high instep, so my shoe options are somewhat limited.
Personally, I do not like Socks with Sandals, but I love flip-flops (hate the name though, where I'm from they're "thongs")
but I dont have any at the moment... most of the time, I wear trainers/sneakers for work and Mary-Jane's or Ballet pumps (socks or tights, doesnt matter) for the rest of the time - sometimes heels.
Resurrecting this thread. I LOVE socks with sandals and am glad it's fashionable again. Although I don't wear socks just to annoy other people, only for warmth. This place often has about 15 C (about 30 F) temperature difference between daily high and low in summer. I generally leave home wearing dresses/skirt and just sandals, with clean socks in my purse. When it's getting cooler and dark I pull the socks out and put them on. My socks always match my dress colors or are dark grey. When I lived in a place with hot summers I never wore socks with sandals. There was no need as night time never dropped below 70 F. I kinda miss there. Here I always need to bring socks, a jacket and an umbrella with me any time I leave home.

CONFUSED.
I agree it's much better to cover up hideous looking feet. Though I do understand people want their feet to be cool. If you have fungus or warts it's especially important to have them exposed to fresh air.

It depends on the type of sandal and the type of sock for me. I think wearing socks with my clunky Birkenstocks is just fine--especially if they're tweedy-looking socks. And there could be "little-girl" type looks with lace-trimmed socks and white sandals. I've seen people wearing pantyhose with strappy little sandals at work and it looks miserably uncomfortable to me. When men wear black dress socks with sandals I cringe.
In general, I hate socks because I have hot feet. (not sexy-hot but sweaty-hot)
How do you walk in them? How?
(See above).
It's easier to walk in them if you get a pair that has the angled straps rather snug/fitting to your feet. My feet are slender so most flip flops are big and loose on my feet, which makes me have to try walking properly as well as try to keep them on my feet. Ipanemas suit my feet the best.
Depends. If I'm at a pool I'll tolerate the flops because they make sense in that setting. Otherwise, I prefer REAL sandals because they are more comfortable and yea, if it suits me, I'll wear socks, but it's not a requirement. I think my feet are ugly (well I think ALL feet are ugly really) so mostly, I prefer to cover them up.
