I can't log onto chat for some reason. I keep getting this message.

Connecting...
Logging in...
-- *** Looking up your hostname...
-- *** Checking ident
-- *** Couldn't look up your hostname
-- *** Got ident response
Error : Closing Link: 127.0.0.1 (Bad user info)
Disconnected from chat.freenode.net

Can anyone help me?

Not sure but 127.0.0.1 is the address of all servers I think. Like if you sent an
email to [email protected] it would not leave your computer or bounce back to it.
Anyway I'm curious why 127.0.0.1 is being listed

Could your firewall program block the port IRC needs to use to connect?

Well maybe you need to shut off your firewall. That's what I had to do some of the time.

Good, because Java is way too slow...

I prefer using Gaim's IRC support to get on instead.

127.0.0.1 is the IP address a computer uses to refer to itself.

the loopback address is important but it has nothing to do with any problems we're having today. Freenode is having some issues.
