One of the most impressive things anyone ever did to help me:

In London, mid 60s. I newly arrived trying to find a place to spend the night. The city is full - no room in the inn. Long series fruitless phone calls. I hsve no more pay phoine change. I am trying to find someone will change a florin so I can keep phoning. I ask a passing stranger/. He does not have enough change - he gives me threepence.

I make one more call - find a spot. Saved.

I am never likely to forget him.

----------------

Arguably the worst - two senior members of the department move to get me fired. Strange coincidence - each of them has a wife active in the field who needs a job. No idea which wife would have had my position if my firing had not been appealed and undone.

-------------

Let's see - we have office politics, we have an action which whatever the guy's background is in the best tradition of ideal Christian behavior, we have an ethical issue. About covers it.

Anyone else's best and worst?
