http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/201 ... -son_n.htm USA Today runs the story. She was a psychiatrist, and a single mother who was pushed over the edge by the school system and personal finances. Very very sad. RIP to Ben Barnhard and his mom. :(

Why is it that every time I click on this forum, I want to die?

The problem is this woman became too consumed with his schooling when the education kids get at home is more important.

If a parent is letting their child's schooling consume them too much, they need to step back, put things in perspective, and rethink their priorities.

Unfortunately suicide is common amongst those in the psychiatric/psychological fields because they think if they can't solve their own problems then no one can.

Being driven to suicide because of spiraling debt from the cost of educating/looking after her son. My only hope is this doesn't provide wind in the sails of the autism-abortion debate.

I am a little surprised re: her financial status - a top psychiatrist from John Hopkins University, where is the father? Surely he must be contributing something?

She could have paid for a homeschool tutor for 10,000 a year. Why do parrents overlook homeschooling...it is best education because parrents know their kids the best.

very sad, such a bright future gone because his mother couldn't see that.

The article claimed she was short of money so she couldn't have afforded a home tutor or afforded to stay home. Homeschooling would be fantastic, unfortunately it's a massive sacrifice financially.

True that!

The mother may be a victim of the system
but she's still a bloody murderer.

Killing the kid to spare him from future pain?
That's not saintly—that's f*****g demented.
