True, but its used to boost the confidence of each side if people are told that their god is with them. I have already explained that the causes of wars are not as simple as their religion demanding it.

Your statement proves my point. Each side is being manipulated by those in power to commit violence against the othe group, in the name of god. IMO this is evil manifest.

In the main, it is not religion itself that causes wars, it is people using organised religion to manipulate others, often to do bad things that are against the respective religious teachings.

Hyped-up group mentality. Hell yeah.

Which reminds me, I need to read that.

I'm an agnostic (I neither believe in, nor discredit any religion or atheism). I do, however, blame some things on religious fundamentals. Things such as homosexuality being unacceptable, and things such as feeling wrong to live together/have children without marriage, and making boys feel guilty for the need to do things that boys biologically need to do at a certain age, all of which can and will cause psychological damage to kids and adults. Particularly the LDS (Mormon) and the Catholic Churches, seem to be a bit stubborn on those subjects.

The other side of the discussion, would be that there are some people who might not have good direction in life, and affiliating with a religion will guide them to a rewarding and well-rounded life.

What's good for one might be bad for another, and nobody is qualified to judge that.

If you don't mind me asking, how do you think it ought to be done?

It did. It doesn't now, unfortunately.

Actually that would be science + poor airport security + religion + extremism.

I know that part, but what religion (and a quote of a book from that particular religion) would ban that?

The most notable inventions during the Dark Ages were:

- Paper (105 CE - China)
- The moldboard plow (~600 CE - Eastern Europe)
- Porcelain (~700 CE - China)
- Windmills (~700 CE - Persia)
- Coffee (850 CE - Arabia)
- Gunpowder (919 CE - China)
- Ceramic movable-type printing (1041 CE - China)
- Crossbow (1050 CE - France)

Right. A graph made in Microsoft Paint with a y-axis with no units labelled 'Scientific Advancement'. And the graph starts well before the invention of the scientific method. And it pretends that the Greeks didn't do anything interesting, while the Romans did. Then it pastes the word 'Christian' in front of 'Dark Ages', and pretends that anything not in Europe doesn't exist for nearly a millenium.

Nevertheless, the Dark Ages coincided with the first 1000 years of Christianity in Europe after the fall of Rome in 476 CE, and ended only when free-thinking minds turned from Christian doctrine toward actually observing and confirming scientific principles.

Where would we be technologically if the Integer Fratres ("Wright Brothers") had made the first powered flight from Elit Accipitris ("Kitty Hawk") in 903 CE?
