EDIT: By the way, since no one voted I want to state the obvious and say it's a bull snake and there IS a difference, despite what ignorant people say. BTW I guess there's no way to delete polls is there?

I've never had a snake, but I've always thought they were beautiful.

You should get a corn snake if you want something easy to take care of. However, if you get a baby green burmese python and handle it regularly it can be one of your best friends :). Make sure to never buy adults, cause you don't know what their previous owners were like. They are extremely docile if you make them trust you and feed them well enough. You only hear horror stories from abusive owners or zoos with feral adult specimens. I don't have one yet, but I know for a fact that they are friendly if you treat them right. Also, just look at how beautiful they are!

Burmese is as large as I'll get I think, but that's just me!
If you want to get one, be sure to get or build a large/giant enclosure for it. I'm so sick of people putting them in small spaces.

I used to own a small garden snake. I would love to have one again. I love reptiles.

I picked gopher snake because I like the way they look and they are very common in my area, I don't know how they are as pets though.

Here's a photo of one from earlier this year - it was pretending to be a rattlesnake coiled to strike, it was even shaking the end of its tail...

Well, for the poll you were supposed to guess if my snake video was of a bull or gopher snake, but that's ok. Bull snakes have a black band going from their eye to the corner of their mouth and they have a large scale at the end of their snout area. Gopher snakes don't have these. People don't realize this and confuse bulls with gophers all the time. Your snake pic appears to be a bull, but I can't tell from this angle.

Really? Well I never considered myself to be much of a herpetologist...

Here's a close-up of the same snake, does this help?

OP, next time you could be a bit more specific as to what you want? I didn't vote because I had no idea what the poll was about.

This is the type of serpent that I'd like to own.

Sorry I tried...
And yes, that is in fact a bull snake. A beautiful one too!

Thanks for clearing that up! Those snakes are very common around here, it's nice to know I won't be mis-identifying them any more.

Here's one I saw a few months ago, it was somewhat large and rather impressively slinking along a single strand of barbed-wire.

No worries! I've messed up almost every poll I've made... hehe
