why not disclose location could help find more dates

Something i have been curious about since i joined this site. Why, especially with those participating in this thread of Love and Date, are there so many wanting to find a partner or even experience their first ever date but do not have their location on their profile. I would have thought by disclosing our location it might encourage those who live in a similar proximity to make contact via messages.

Is there a reason people are not putting in location other than privacy?

Would it increase communications with people closer to our own locations if we did disclose?

I think i would be more inclind to make contact with those closer to where i am, anyone else feel the same?

Welcome, and good question! I do it out of privacy (I have minor children so I'm a bit skewed there) and because I come here for introspection and insight, not so much for dating possibilities. You're right, though, people who are unencumbered and are coming here for contacts should disclose!

Theres a great sticky at the top of this section(Elegible odd bobs thread http://www.wrongplanet.net/posts62-start2595.html ) where people that are looking for a partner can disclose their location/interest/a picture/a small description/what they are looking for... so you might wanna have a look there

There are also some meetup threads ( heres the main one but there are several around the social skills section http://www.wrongplanet.net/posts41284-start720.html ).

That should give you a fair chance of finding some people around your area, however keep in mind that most people at the social skills thread are looking for friendships rather than a relationship(apparently there have been some confussions about this in the past)

Some don't give their location because they are trying to show they are funny or creative or make a statement by saying something else in that spot. I use that approach but I also mention my general area; I don't say my town because it's very small & some people less than an hour away haven't heard of it so I just say say south Louisiana. I am very willing to relocate so I think mine is fitting

People hoping to meet someone on here do disclose their location. I have mine on my profile, but it's not specific to the state. I must stay in California, but have no issue with relocating within the state itself.

Where in California I live is something many here on WP know.

Is there a sort feature here, so you can find people by location?

i am not single but where i live i am geographically isolated. i am seeing the one other member in my local.
