No. I've only travelled twice in my adult life, once with my mother, once alone. My mother has also travelled twice in the same time, once with me (duh) and once alone. My father has done a little travelling, always alone because he only wants to go to his small home town in northern Norway, which neither my mother or I have any wish to go. Twice as a tween was enough!


Unemployed, don't even have a licence despite liking cars (but I should add that public transport is rather well developed here), and never got as far as college

I hate crowds too and the security on JFK must be among the most sour and rude I have ever encountered. they could do well to learn from other airports here in Europe.


Gad yes! dreadful wherever they are really. I wish there silent zones on all trains, planes, buses, preferably shops too.

i turn 30 in November, does that count? i still live with my mom. we don't get to do much traveling but when we do go somewhere it is always together, usually driving not flying.

With United and Continental merging, I don't know if I want to fly. Flying can be annoying especially going through those security check points, take off shoes, etc. I never been to JFK, just mainly fly out of Dulles. I rarely fly overseas now. I get worried over my Westie. I worry if she will be ok if she's left at this pet resort or at the groomer's house. I rather travel by car or if necessary by plane. I may go to a dog show in PA in the fall and I will take the train to get there. I do have family in Seattle too, but they have visited my parents and I here. It's a 5 hour flight. But the scenery flying overhead is beautiful due to Mt Rainier.

I remember May 2009 very well. Timmy was still alive then I was all alone at home. My parents went to Las Vegas for dad's conference and was going to meet me at SeaTac airport. So I flew alone to Seattle. I had to leave Timmy at the pet resort the night prior to be flying. I cried all night because I was home alone and I was worried about Timmy. I don't think I will ever fly again. If I want to vacation Ruby has to come with me. It must be lack of security or lack of maturity? I never had people friends. Timmy was my only friend for 6 years. My parents and I recently went to Charlotte NC for few days and had to leave Ruby at her groomer's. I was worried about her if the groomer would feed her play with her, etc. I just get worried if people will take care of my dog well or abuse them. I don't trust people 100% like I did before. I distrust people more. You just don't know about leaving dogs behind when you travel if they are treated well or not. Now when we go visit my dad's family in NJ, Timmy went and now Ruby goes so that's better.

It's sounds like you're happy and productive in this situation.

It's fairly common for adult only children who are unmarried themselves to live with their parents well into adulthood.

I have several relatives and friends in their 50s+ who have always lived with their parents (and had jobs).

I've known other people in their 20s or 30s, living at home rent-free, broke, jobless, who do nothing but sleep all day.

So long as you can function while at home and have some boundaries, why not? In this wretched economy, it's becoming oppular...

I'm 32 and I moved out of my parent's home when I was 15 or 16. I'm not really good at living with other adults because I'm quite odd about doing things a certain way and at a certain time, or having things in their place and so on but I love having my son around the house and I don't mind at all if his stuff is all over the place. Not sure what I'll do when he grows up and moves out really.

I like to travel to places and I do love new countries to explore but I also like to know I can go home if I want to so it's kind of difficult as if I get freaked out or anything I just want to go home and hide, which I can't do if I'm far away. It's not such an issue if I'm on my own or just with my son but if there are other people there then that is usually when I just want my own space. I don't mind flying and I like driving
