That is one drawback: if the government takes it over completely, then health care suffers when the politicians decide to trim the budget.

So far, I think that our Medicare program has been okay, simply because our Senior Citizens vote.

Even our repugnicans aren't going after Medicare for the current crop of retirees, and for people over 55. Instead, their plan is to wreck it for for people currently under 55, who won't know what hit them.

affordable but delayed care still beats UNaffordable and UNavailable [terminally delayed due to lack of $$$$$$$ to pay the bills] care anyday of the week. nobody in any other nation has to worry about being bankrupted by medical bills, which in america are the leading cause of bankrupcy among private citizens. even the late christopher reeve, as wealthy as he was, had his insurance company lifeline cut-off when his bills reached a 10 million dollar coverage cap. but luckily he still had his good buddy robin williams to cover the remainder of his 8 figure medical bills, while 99% of the rest of us americans will not be so fortunate. a nation that doesn't take care of ALL of its own citizens is seriously lacking, IMHO. why do we have to be such outliers among western nations? it is a shameful state of affairs, for illegal immigrants to get medical care but not our own working-class americans who are priced out of such services- what are we, chopped liver? :x

I guess Moses got it wrong when he invented socialized medicine in ancient Israel because imposing a ten percent tax to pay for medicine is theft.

sad case but then again brittain is far from the only social medicine in the world,

in denmark you are entitled to full compensation if one gets fored to use a private hospital when the time guidelines are broken(in effect, you never see the bill)

then again our private hospitals actually have more malpractice cases than our public medicine, many would chose the public over the private sector, with good reason.

I have a handfull of canadian friends and the worst complaint any of them have ever made in my presence was when one of them was mildly annoyed that the CT scan for his stiff knee was scheduled for 10:30pm on a friday.

it doesn't really prove anything other than the fact that the uk government and the health authorities specifically are running the nhs very badly. there is no objective criticism of socialised health care per se. this post is almost as bad as tequila saying "look here! three young islamic immigrants called a white girl a b***h! so islamic immigrants must be bad in general!".

I never understood how delayed healthcare was preferable to unaffordable and unavailable healthcare. Better late than never.

The Golden Oldies tend to vote early and often. What else would a politician do?

No. It is possible for the government not to rescind a benefit. Look at social security. No politician will touch that "third rail"

Private insurers are required by law to comply with contractual obligations offered to and paid for by the buyer. The catch is the buyer must read the fine print carefully.

Governments can do anything they want since they can change the law to suit their policies.
