Cadbury's Cream Eggs were twice the size that they are now and half the price.

What do you remember?

I remember when people actually spelled out the whole word instead of using single letters of numbers as words.
I remember when MTV actually played music.
I remember when cable TV was a new thing that was not in most neighborhoods.
I remember when nobody knew what the internet was.
I remember when candy bars we're less than a quarter.
I remember when rotary dial phones we're the most common type of phone.
I remember when there was no such thing as a "play date"
I remember when teenagers would wear their pants pulled up all the way.
I remember when rap was a completely new type of music.

I remember the sounds of the gunshots.
I remember the shelling and aircraft bombing.
I remember the bloody dead on the street.
I remember the life underground , in the shelter.
I remember the stinky smell of the militias.
I remember occupational soldiers searching the apartment for 'weapons' and suspicious stuff.

I remember thinking this could be an interesting and fun topic,

And then I got to Boo's reply and I just sat here trying to imagine what that would of been like.

I remember when my heart didn't feel so heavy
I remember thinking of something to write

and now I feel speachless.

I remember when you could get a portion of chips/fries for 28p, and you got loads more than you get now.

MTV played music

Mrs. Butterworth's syrup contained butter.

Videogames had realtime-generated audio tracks, and didn't just spool lame pre-recorded music from the hard drive.

TVs did real Faroudja motion-vector deinterlacing instead of faking it by bobbing the odd & even scanlines together, then resampling the blurry mess to the desired resolution.

You could still buy lawn darts at flea markets, and you could play with them in the back yard without getting reported to the police.

Cell phones had external antenna stubs that worked, instead of internal low-gain antennas that cause 3-6dB attenuation if you hold the phone in a way that's comfortable.

Laptops had volume dials that could be instantly flicked to "off" if your computer started making noise somewhere inappropriate. God, I hate 100% touch-based controls :(

You could read benchmarks & specs for a specific Intel CPUs, and know they applied to other Intel CPUs of the same part number. Now, Intel markets all but their most expensive Xeon CPUs by "performance class" and guarantees nothing. One might have 3 cores & 32kb level 1 cache, another with the exact same model # & stepping might have 4 cores, but only 8k L1, slower FSB, and higher multiplier.

The answer to that is to get an old pair of headphones, and cut off the plug and stick that in the headphone socket in your laptop. Ta daa. You could make a hole in it and attach it to your keys.

I remember Christmas - 4 generations of family in one house; the excitement and the anticipation; the lights, sounds and smells; the laughter and the hugs...

I remember toys - the ones that didn't need batteries; the ones that were powered by a kid's imagination alone, which enabled them to do more than any push-button tech toy ever could; the toys that became a part of you through sheer familiarity and constant interaction; the toys they just don't make any more.

I remember books - page after page of immersion in someone else's dreams and ideas; the let-down when the book was finished, and comfort in the knowledge that the story would always be with you.

I remember friends - real friends; the kind of friend that would listen to all your stupid thoughts and then tell you theirs while you listened, and neither of you would judge the other; the kind of friend that would 'hang out' with you for no particular reason, and then say that it was the best thing they ever did (it was!).

I remember when people watched video tapes instead DVDS.

I remember when people put big lights on their Christmas trees.

I remember when it was Hip To Be Square.

I remember when The Kinks were actually on the radio in Vancouver, British Columbia.

I remember when The Dukes of Hazard was still on TV on Friday Evenings.

I remember when teenage girls wore clothes that covered their entire bodies.

I remember when The Beatles were having their second wave of popularity around 1987.

I remember when Big Macs were actually big.

Recording songs from the radio onto cassettes.

When CD's first came out thinking they looked too fragile to ever catch on.

^^^ This! Oh how I miss this!

I remember children playing real games and wanting to stay outside as long as possible instead of spending all their time playing video games.

I remember buying food without worrying that it will be genetically modified or filled with some chemical crap.

I remember sending and getting hand-written postcards and letters.
