What's the title of your favourite book?

Mine (apart from the Harry Potter series) is The Lord of the Flies, by William Golding. I think it encloses several metaphors which help create an almost perfect allegory of the Second World War. It's pessimistic, for it portrays human beings as naturally cruel and ruthless, but the way the words were woven to create such an outstanding plot made the book admirable and worth the Nobel Prize.

My two favorite books are "Albion's Seed" and "Culture of Critique". Both are about the culture and identity of Americans in particular, and Westerners in general. Both books put the lie to the Politically Correct idea that Western peoples are somehow uniquely evil, and hence not worthy of a culture or identity. Being of Western heritage doesn't make me bad anymore than being an aspie makes me bad. We're all individuals, and deserve to be treated as such.

I haven't read "Lord of the Flies", but I have it on my bookshelf. One of these days.....

Only one book?

Beautiful Losers by Leonard Cohen is easily in my top ten all time favorite books. I admire the sad love story, the mystical spirituality woven through the words, the vivid imagery of imperfect people making their way through life and dreams.

It's between The Lord of the Rings ( I guess a trilogy can count as one book) and The Mists of Avalon, which is the King Arthur legend from the point of view of the women in the story.
