Quote:
The Blair-Rockefeller Poll was created by political scientists Todd Shields, Pearl Ford Dowe, Angie Maxwell and Rafael Jimeno of the Diane D. Blair Center of Southern Politics and Society at the University of Arkansas. With over 3,400 respondents, the poll has a national scope as well as ample sampling of such traditionally under-polled groups as African-Americans and Latinos. Additionally, by addressing topics that have been little studied, the poll allows researchers to identify socio-cultural influences on political values throughout the country with an emphasis on the South. The Blair Center partners with the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute to produce the Blair-Rockefeller Poll.

Quote:
Following the post-inaugural rise of Tea Party groups throughout the country, the Blair-Rockefeller Poll allowed participants to indicate whether they identified with the growing movement. 10.6% of the national poll defined themselves as Tea Party members. Tea Party members are predominantly white, middle class, educated, Christian males over the age of 45. Though the unemployment rate of Tea Party members is less than the national average, Tea Party members seem to feel that their situations are going to get worse. This “fear of falling” has driven them to become politically engaged as voters and politically knowledgeable. Their policy preferences are very distinct, with negative views toward health care reform, specifically, distinguishing them from Republicans.

Shhhh.....

And when asked how often they attend church services, Tea Party members are more likely to attend church MORE than once a week. There is a distinct gender gap within the party with 57.8% of Tea Party members being male, while 42.2% are female. Almost two-thirds (63.2%) or Tea Party members are over the age of 45.

Its a shame Fox News poisoned the movement. That's why you see folks Santorum and Gingrich leading with self-identified "Tea Partiers".

The media has already begun doing it with the "Occupy" movement, it will be a shill for Barack Obama before long.

I don't understand the context of "shhhhh....", as there's two potential ways you might be using it.

  • You get that I was being sarcastic, but are yourself sarcastically telling me to keep the fact quiet so as to not embarrass the right-libertarians who've draped themselves in the movement and then proceed to highlight said fact.
  • You don't get that I was being sarcastic and decided to correct me with an indignant "shhhhh...." used as an opener.

I'm interested in knowing what these people think of the moon landing, alien abductions, whether Hitler and Elvis are alive, and their position on tinfoil hats.
