The test exists only for screening purposes. As it says, it is not enough for a diagnosis, and cannot conclude either way. It merely points in a general direction. It works if, statistically, people with AS get high scores, and people without it don't, but the keyword is "statisically". It's all about probability. And I think Baron-Cohen recommends that everyone with a score above 26 be more fully evaluated, though people with lower scores might also need an evaluation.

I don't know for autism, since I have not concluded the diagnostic process, but I have been evaluated several times for several disorders, and no one really cared about the tests. Once, the psychologist said of a 150-200 question personnality evaluation that the results were were to be taken with a grain of salt; another time, I had high test scores for three different disorders (depression, bipolar disorder and "psychosis in general"), and no one really talked about that at all; a third time, I asked to do tests because I like doing them, and once again, it ended there, I didn't even get the results.

(Oh, and the first time I took the AQ test, I had 33.)

I got a 33 O_O

I didn't look at that test though, but is it the AQ test?

Hmmm, I don't remember how many questions seemed related to empathy but I know there were a lot of questions about repetitive behavior, which I do have.

Maybe you have less of that?

I don't take the AQ or the Aspie Quiz seriously. Some autistic people will score in the NT range, and some NT people will score in the autistic range.

Yep. I think have more traits of OCD +sensory issues. I score high on all Aspie tests because of this.

I got a 33.

Based upon your responses to this autism screening measure, it appears that you may be suffering from an autism spectrum disorder, or Asperger's disorder. People who score similarly often qualify for a diagnosis of autism or Asperger's.

I've taken it a few times, and always get a 33 or 34. I think there are one or two questions that I am unsure about, so I pick the answer that fits best at the time.

I can't speak to the accuracy of the test, as I'm awaiting diagnosis, but I've scored in the AS/Autistic range for every available test online. I've had my neurotypical boyfriend take a few of them to see how he scores, and he's always in the NT range.

So, for us, someone who feels quite certain about having AS, and a definite NT, the test is accurate.

Based upon your responses to this autism screening measure, it appears that you are likely suffering from an autism spectrum disorder, or Asperger's disorder. People who score similarly often qualify for a diagnosis of autism or Asperger's.

People with an autism spectrum disorder often suffer from severe and sustained impairment in social interaction and the development of restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, and activities. The disturbance must cause clinically significant impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.

You should not take this as a diagnosis of any sort, or a recommendation for treatment. However, it would be advisable and likely beneficial for you to seek further diagnosis from a trained mental health professional soon to rule out a possible anxiety disorder.
It seemed fairly accurate to me. Though some of the questions would be non-applicable, as I do not interact socially much, if at all. So I just answered the best I could, based upon both limited experience, and anticipation.

I got a 43. I haven't been dx, but things written about adult women with AS are the first things that I've ever read about adult women that I actually relate to and I relate to them eerily well. My NT husband has scored well within the NT ranges on these tests.

On the other test I got 151/200 AS and 62/200 NT the first time I took it (before reading anything about AS) and the second time I took it I got 160/200 AS and 55/200 NT (after I had read a bit and understood a couple of questions better). My husband scored pretty much the opposite of my second score except with a lower AS number than my NT number.

I'm reluctant to pursue a dx because there's nobody local who has a lot of experience with adult AS and with adult female AS specifically. If/when I find a person or center with that experience, I will probably choose to be evaluated. If I went to a place that specializes in children or men I don't think their assessment would be accurate so it would be a waste of time and money.

I took it again (I think I took it before) and got 36.

I also did the add test on that site and got 55. That is moderate. 70+ is the highest.

Funnily enough, the answer to Life, the Universe and Everything is 42 :)

No quiz is accurate.

It's impossible to make an accurate judgement about someone, based only on the answers to multiple choice or "true or false" questions, which leave no room for explanations, clarifications, distinctions or discussions.

The same applies to statistics produced from surveys and things like that. They box you in, into using the surveyor's preset answers, which may not accurately represent what you have to say. All results are skewed by the surveyor's bias and subjective interpretation of an unreliable source of information.

The problem with quizes like this (and I've found with some of the rdos questions too), is that aspies can be perdantic and also asperger's black AND WHITE, and things, personality traits, can often swing both ways, even if they tend to one way or another in the general aspie population.

In terms of cut off the wired version states.

In the first major trial using the test, the average score in the control group was 16.4. Eighty percent of those diagnosed with autism or a related disorder scored 32 or higher.

And lets not forget that more males and probably more sevear cases where getting diagnosed back then....
Still even though I score 36, it's been a mission and a half to get a diagnosis, over 10 years in the process! (got pleny of other diagnosis along the way though). So the test may well be more accurate than a shrink, even with only a 80% about 32 confidence raiting.

Oh wouldn't you know it :
Agree: 2,4,5,6,7,9,12,16,18,19,20,21,22,23,33,35,39,41,43,46: 1 point
Disagree: 3,8,10,11,15,17,24,25,27,28,29,30,31,37,40,44: 1 point
Score: 36

I did answer some questions in a possibly odd way. For instance not getting the point of the joke, no I don't see the point in telling crap jokes.

I also applied a gung-ho filter when the answer could have been either way, that is removed the gung-ho aspects of my nature and just answered based on the collatoral damage.

There's also odd circular questions like this:
" I tend to notice details that others do not. " which reuires super natural mind reading abilities to answer.
and
"I don't usually notice small changes in a situation or a person's appearance."
Now how the hell am I supposed to know if I didn't notice them in a first place, esp given they are small and how small? Sometimes at first I notice small things but not big things and visa versa, but then at some point I do usually notice the big and small things (or some of them) that I didn't before (which is how I know I didn't notice them instantly).
I am good as word finding games and where's wally. etc...
