OK so heres what I am looking for and what I've got

I started playing drums just a couple yrs ago and had to stop due to a health problem and now that thats fixed I'm starting back up.

I've got an electronic drum kit,..ddrums DD1 > http://www.ddrum.com/dd1.php
and a MIDI adapter to USB (for use with PS3) so I could practice using Rock Band 3. I only play pro mode /expert and do quite well so I don't wanna hear it

Now I'd like to record and mix using the same outfit I've already got. I already play occasionally using the 1/4" phono outputs directly into my home stereo(killer stereo btw, w/twin 18" subs etc)

So what I need is some software suggestions that are free to download, also I'm not sure if its reprogramable or what in order to use my midi to usb to plug into my puter.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated ! !! !! !! !!

How many tracks do you expect to use in a recording session?

I haven't the faintest idea, but I do have a question. --Is it possible to use an electronic drumkit to trigger a VST Drum plugin? If so, you should be able to mix your levels inside of a decent plugin and get a 2Ch sum into your DAW, or use the plugin as the 'brain' for a live setup.

Bah, I misunderstood the OP. Anyway, I use Protools for something like that and just do it one at a time, but if you're looking for a free program, I believe someone I know was talking about using this for what you're talking about.

Audacity is good but very basic.

I'd recommend Reaper personally, but it isn't free. Something 70 bucks last I checked.
