Beware the 'System Check' Trojan!

What desktop are you using in Crunchbang? Perhaps there are some things that aren't needed or used that could be ditched in Lubuntu/Xubuntu, to ease the pain.
Crunchbang, or rather more correctly #! Linux uses Openbox WM with Thunar for File management. --To get a feel for it, you should be able to logout of your desktop session in Lubuntu and login running Openbox only. The only real differance that you will experience is that you will be using PCmanFM for file management instead of Thunar.

Unless you use KDE, MATE is the way forward as far as Linux UIs go IMO. GNOME 3 and Unity are both crap, and Ubuntu is making itself look unattractive to a lot of its users by "simplifying" itself too much.
I'll check MATE out. I'll learn more about Openbox, too. I might also give KDE another look, but I may just end up keeping LXDE. Haven't decided yet
Thanks to everyone, for all your help!
Have A Great Day!

For those who don't know, MATE = Gnome 2.
I don't like Gnome 3 or Unity either, (or KDE for that matter,) but I'm not so sure MATE is the way forward.
More like a way for people to keep using Gnome 2 until someone produces something better.
The way forward will most likely have to wait for either a philosophical shift by KDE, GNOME, XFCE, or Cannonical, or an entirely new project which values both usability and customizability.
Right now, IMHO, KDE seems to neglect the former, while Gnome 3 and Unity seem to neglect the latter.
That's why, for now, I'm using MATE.
