So, I did the ADI-R last week for my son (4 1/2). I found one of the questions rather surprising, and didn't really take the chance to ask the doctor about it.
She asked if my son ever did rapid breathing in and out. I was quite surprised, because he has often done that over the past couple of years, and yet I never linked it to ASD. I even did a web-search months ago on children semi-hyperventilating or fast breathing to find out why he was maybe doing it. It's not just 'fast' breathing though, it's changing his breath from fast to slow and back again in a very repetitive, audible fashion. Never thought of it as being a 'stim'. I wonder if that's why the question is on there, or is the breathing not a stim but linked to some other co-morbid/reason/health issue.
Anyone else do this or have seen this or know why that question is on the ADI-R? Just curious, since it was one of those surprising questions I had never even thought of as connected. There were a couple of questions like that.
