Well, Autism in general is what I am currently hung up, along with my first love, dinosaurs. Which makes a weird juxtaposition! LOL
Any health issue that directly effects me becomes a special intrest, most of the time. So learning about the Spectrum is a main area of reading/research.

Sincerely,
Matthew

It's been mine for the last month or so, when I first started to suspect that I may have AS. It's made it difficult to concentrate on other stuff... :P

Right now yes. Over the past few weeks, I have spent hundreds of hours researching and reading. Including reading around 10 books two or three times over and completing the OU open courseware ASD module.

Mines as well, but I don't go all out crazy like this person. I spend around 30 minutes a day, most of that time is spent reading these forums too. I considure this forum part of that special interest.

This is all part of my special interest in diseases and disorders in general which I spend 30 minutes to 2 hours a day on.

It was my special interest a little over a year ago, but not anymore.

I've been obsessed with ASD in general for a couple months since a couple friends said they were pretty sure i was on the spectrum.
After scoring in the AS range on EVERY online test and quiz I took, i spent literally every spare second for 4 days reading about aspergers. I'm almost positive i have it now and i'm going to get a referral from my GP to get tested.

Sadly, it is right now. I keep losing interest and then coming back to it. This is probably my 7th or 8th time throughout several years.

Yes, Asperger's has been on-again, off-again special interest for years.

I feel less weird now.

Upon learning of Asperger's when I was diagnosed with it, it became a special intense interest of mine. I find it natural that it would, afterall, I had spent so many years trying to discover who I was. The discovery of Asperger's in my life was a new chapter in my life---a journey of self-discovery. At that time I joined this site and began my quest for information. I also read tremendous amounts of literature and research on Asperger's. I am still learning.

Same. It's definitely something I'm very interested in right now, but I would have thought that's nothing unusual for someone who recently discovered he's an Aspie. I hesitate a little in calling it a "special interest", because I don't seem to get as obsessed with things as most people here. Let's just say it's definitely an interest. :)

Although if you define a "special interest" as "something that I actively want to talk to people about and could go on an on about" then I guess it qualifies. There are really only a few subjects that I could talk about for a long time without getting bored and autism is one of them.

Yes. Asperger's.

Asperger's and other conditions are my current special interest. :)

In fact, psychology/neurology are my special interests, even though I don't talk about it - I study it. I wonder if other Aspies keep their special interest to themselves also?

Asperger's is currently my *current* special interest since it possibly happens to involve myself: I might have it and I have gotten my family doctor to refer me to a psychiatrist for evaluation; however, I have a strong feeling I might have a sensory processing disorder more so than a social one.

I have been fascinated by psychology since I was 13 years of age.

However, it's just come into my awareness that it'd be called a "special interest" under the psychiatric DSM classification.

Maybe I am a born a psychologist all along!?!
