I think we all knew that already.

Yeah, people have been saying it for a very long time. Mind you, I never got what 'hidden homosexuality' might mean, to me you're only really gay if you persue same sex relation, is anyone who 'secretly' gets hard to fantasies of men etc. really gay?

Well, let's be clear. If you've been taught all your life that it's wrong to fellate another man; and if you fervently believe that; and if the thoughts that are running through your head while your hands are under the covers are about fellating the guy with the locker next to yours--well, you're gonna be a bit conflicted.

If this is indeed the case (and I certainly have no reason to believe it ain't so), then is it any wonder that these are the people who are proclaiming that teens have to be insulated from corrupting influences? If they believe themselves to have been corrupted by the "sinful" idea of fellating a teammate, it stands to reason that they believe that every God-fearing heterosexual could fall victim to the same corruption.

Life would be so much easier if we just issued teens with condoms and told them how to behave respectfully towards a sexual partner--whether male, female or otherwise.

That reminds me of an older study, which tested the reaction of self-proclaimed straight men to gay porn by measuring their change in penis circumference. This study came to the same result*. Men who had been shown homophobic tendencies in a questionnaire prior to the test had a definitive physical reaction to gay porn scenes, unlike more tolerant men:

http://www.scientificamerican.com/artic ... aight-male

*More or less the same result anyway, seeing that the homophobes in this study also responded to straight and lesbian porn. Which means that homophobes are likely to be closet bisexuals, not necessarily homosexuals. That would also explain their stubborn insistence that homosexuality is a choice.

Quote:
Both groups—non-homophobic and homophobic men—showed significant engorgement to the straight and lesbian porn and their subjective ratings of arousal matched their penile plethsymograph measure for these two types of video. However, as predicted, only the homophobic men showed a significant increase in penile circumference in response to the gay male porn.

I think very likely, these are gay men who had been raised in such hateful, homophobic families, that they have spent their whole lives denying who they are by attacking people of their own nature. You have to wonder what self loathing and desperation they must live with.

If you're a guy and men get you going, your gay/bi, one of the two.

"Secretly gay" is being in the closet, not letting anyone know your gay (and in some cases not even admitting it to yourself).

But what would make someone secretly gay (in terms of what are the signs), and how is it different than straight or bi or unsure?

Much like former Mayor Jim West of Spokane, who had built a career on homophobia - only to lose his job in a special election, after it was discovered he was contacting young gay men on municipal computers. Or former Senator Larry Craig, who, after building a career also on homophobia, got outed after he had admitted to a morals charge in an airport restroom with an undercover cop.

Yup, and also George Rekkers (the rentboy.com guy), who has a PhD in psychology and has published anti-gay 'research.' I.e. was involved in the "feminine boy study" where he figured that using behavior-modification to stamp out feminine behaviors in young boys would prevent them from becoming gay.

I saw a CNN documentary about the young boy who Rekkers had based his studies on, on which he claimed his therapy was a success. In fact, the boy in question had committed suicide as an adult, because his childhood therapy had only caused life long depression.

The signs can be anything from homophobia (if they feel ashamed) to being uncomfortable around openly gay men to not showing any signs at all.

The only difference is that they hide it instead of being open about it.

There might be less open gays than secret gays.

There are thousands of animal species that exhibit homosexual characteristics but there is only one species that exhibit homophobic characteristics.

And less open homophobes than secret homophobes?

That would be hard if not outright impossible to really prove, but I agree.

It's kind of scary to think about how many people haven't been able to live their lives the way they want because of idiotic religious laws and standards.

Yes, my friend was like that when she was younger. She was really homophobic and then all of a sudden she revealed to me that she was a lesbian one day and she said that she was just trying to cover up herself before because she was scared.
