I heard about this idea a while ago, and since I have nothing else to do, I thought I'd post about it. Here are some things you should keep with you, for when you're stressed, or are recovering from a meltdown, feel free to add whatever :) :

Sweets (to eat to distract yourself, or to bring back energy after a meltdown)
Photo
Book
Music player
Tissues (very useful for me)
Small teddy or stuffed toy

There were more, I'll keep thinking.

All but one of the items on your list make sense. You mentioned a photo on your list. A photo of what?

Sorry, should have been more specific. A photo of something or someone who is important to you, friends, family etc

[Moved from The Haven to Random Discussion]

Adolphaxxx - please; only create topics in The Haven which fit under its description, as shown on the main forum index: "For those times when you're feeling blue and need to get a little help from your friends. Discuss all those issues that are not covered by the other forums in the Coping in life category."

Thanks.

Favorite "stim toy(s)" can also be added, provided they are appropriate to use in public (it may be slightly too strange/creepy to be walking down Main Street caressing an AK-47 or that person's femur you purchased at the local morbid curiosities shop, just saying.)

Stress balls or anything to hold in my hand that I can squeeze or play with. I've found that hair ties work in a pinch.

Peppermint gum, or m&m's. Peppermint is a strong smell that seems to calm me. M&M's for counting more than eating to keep myself distracted.

A person who will talk me down instead of getting mad or irritated with me.

Sometimes I wish for a blindfold as I get scared in the car often, especially if we're in a bigger town and there's lots of traffic.
