Hey everybody,

Since 2 months or near i have my own forum about solitude but i have no members. I Wonder how to do publicity without paying. I try referencing with Google and Bing but results are not good. I try keywords meta tags but Google said that useless. I try descriptions tags too. Anyway i seek an way to do free referencing or publicity. There tools for that ? I have no friends to tell the link. By the way i have somes messages on it that members can reply and eventually talk

Thanks to help

That is the problem suffered by all forums. The "easy" part is creating a forum. The difficult bit is getting any members. If your site offers something unique that other sites don't you could try contacting some popular news type sites and seeing if they will do an article on your site. However, without members you face an uphill struggle. It is catch-22; you need members to attract members. Even if you paid for Google keywords etc if you don't already have members there is no reason for new members to stick around anyway.

I'm confused. If you created a forum about solitude and there's only one member, isn't that a success? I mean, the Fortress of Solitude only has one member, right?

An 'oxymoron' is something that contradicts itself.

As far as your forum, you could try advertising it in other forums. Basically, if it's a popular idea, it will take off once more people hear about it and tell others, etc.

It would help if the OP had lots of friends he could get to join, but I guess that isn't likely due to the nature of his site. He really needs something unique that will attract members. Nowadays there seems to be a handful of really big forums (facebook, myspace, google+) then lots of specialised forums that cater for special interests or hobbies. I think he's got to push the solitude angle somehow; try to draw people in who feel disconnected and alone - there must be millions of people who fit the criteria. What can his site offer such people? Does it have any articles and help on overcoming solitude? Does he actually like solitude? Who does he want to join his site? What do those people have in common - be very specific.

A forum on solitude would not have any members.

I have tried to make forums before... All have them have failed miserably. I did get 50 members on one that I had back in 2010... But there was only 1 valid member (He joined the forum out of pity from another forum that I asked why it wasnt getting popular  ) and 49 spammers :( .
Getting them started is hard, im not sure I can give you any advice on starting one up.

Between 10 and 20 spammers join WP every day, creating accounts just to have a website link in their profile to the site they are promoting. Every day I delete those accounts, but more are back the following day. They are like flies. All you can do is keep swatting them. Apparently it won't be so easy for spammers on the new version of the site software which Alex is currently working on. I've urged him to have restrictions e.g. new members must make ten posts before they are eligible to have an URL in their profile or to send PMs.

I've been hearing about that new version of the forum lately... is there some sort of vague release date for it? What changes would it probably bring. Would old posts be kept? Will spoiler tags, sub-forums, code tags and similar be added?

And what kind of forum is this one, phpBB or other? would the new forum be the same, or different, Will an announcement be made about it? If God created the Universe, then who created God? Or is it Gods all the way up? Sorry for all the questions but I must know

I don't know much detail. The existing version of WP is built on an long obsolete version of phpBB and the new version is being built using the latest version of phpBB. As far as I'm aware Alex is aiming to import all the existing accounts and posts to it. Presumably it will have all the features that are available in the latest phpBB version plus various customisations. I have no idea of the release date, other than Alex is apparently working hard on the new version. He's keeping the details close to his chest for the moment.
