A ban on make -up at Gymnatistic events

As I far I know women's Gymnastics appears to be the only Olympic sport where make up is wore during the events. I have two concerns about make up in women's side of the sport. The first is sexualization issue and second is the gender equality issue. For the former, that sport is infamous for sex abuse scandals. For last one, gender equality is problem for all women's sport and the banning of make up would be a 'easy' and 'big' move towards gender equality.

But then we'd be forced to acknowledge and discuss that the sexuality and the objectification are a driving force for the popularity of the sport.

Never mind the makeup; what about their outfits?! Why can't they wear pants like the men?

Don't female figure skaters wear makeup and similar outfits in the Winter Olympics?

Well it's not like males are banned from wearing makeup, they just don't. As far as women wearing makeup, I think many female athletes do, I know Lidia Valentin, a female Olympic weightlifter (pretty damned masculine sport) does. As far as sexualizedness, fine, make all the women wear hijabs then. And no short shorts for volleyball, either.

Both banning makeup as well as requiring it would be equally nonsensical. I would say, whoever wants to wear it wear it, whoever doesnt want to, doesnt. After all, everyone (regardless of gender) has a right to decide what to wear and what not to. Dictating either of the two would amount to taking away the right from said people which in this case would be women.

I really don't like the look of makeup, but if women want to wear it for a sport event, then let them. It's not like it affects the competition.

No, that would be discrimination. I don't think it should be encouraged though. It's kind of dumb if you ask me.

I've always been a fan of gymnastics but I wish they would show men's gymnastics as much as they show women's. Maybe it would have more popularity and we would have a better team.

Kind of sad that women's gymnastics gets all the attention.... kind of makes you wonder why.....

Most of those gymnastics are like 16 or 17 years old though and undeveloped so fantasizing about them is the last thing on my mind. I guess some of the older gymnasts are attractive but you could say that about beach volleyball as well.

A book came out about 10 years ago called "Little Girls in Pretty Boxes". I didn't read it but it talks about eating disorders in gymnastics and probably this sexualization you talk about. Eh, I don't know.

Some of them like wearing makeup, so it wouldn't be fair to ban it for every woman to satisfy the agenda of just a few.

So you want to ban something because you have personal issues with it?

That's wrong. If they want to wear makeup, so be it, if not, so be it.

I'm not a big fan of anyone wearing makeup but I think the women as well as the men should be able to have the choice to wear it if they want. what I'd be more concerned with is that the makeup companies will soon use it as a way advertize; gymnasts would mention what makeup product their using.

I voted for a ban on makeup, but I wouldn't be opposed to some of the female gymnasts shaving or bleaching their mustaches.

I really don't care what they have on their faces it's their choice. I don't see how removing make up solves any of these problems.
