Got stuck in a conversation about women, and...

I kind of got bashed for it. Help would be appreciated.
Specifically about women in the engineering workplace, which degenerated into issues other people face - one I pointed out was the bias and prejudice people on the autistic spectrum face in their own work environment.
The reply was something like this:
"it's interesting that a thread that started out with a woman asking honest advice and starting a discussion about women's problems being taken seriously in an engineering workplace has degenerated into a discussion of a) high functioning autistic individuals (as though being female somehow equates to being psychologically not normal)..." and other topics that revolve around "MEN" written by "MEN" (she emphasized this word)
I clearly need to avoid this area in the future, but until then...any advice from "WOMEN" on how I should respond? Right now it is an apology, and I am trying to figure out how to react to being called "psychologically not normal" (she does not know I am an Aspie - and I have had my own personality bashing for being one before so I am hesitant)
I think she is being very unreasonable and rude toward you. She obviously has some deep-seated gender identity issues, because she was offended that you started talking about anything other than the plight of women. She seemed especially offended by those dreaded, awful MEN! I'm a woman and I would not have reacted that way.
Since she's upset, I think you are correct that apologizing is a good idea. Then, I would just stop participating in that thread at all. Just leave it alone. It's only going to get worse if you try to justify your words or try to explain that you didn't mean to speak out against women. It will definitely get worse if you start defending autistic people, because she will get even more upset that someone is derailing the topic away from women.

This sounds good!
