Got prescribed another SSRI, so I said, alright I'll take it and see how it does me. I will probably go to a specialist soon anyways, but let's try it out maybe it will do some good... Nope. Within the first day, only two hours after taking it, the nausea got so bad I threw up... and now here I am sitting down feeling like an unenergetic, drowsy, heavy load of crap and I still feel nauseuos... Bah.. Another SSRI scratched off the list. I wonder how many they got since I've been prescribed a lot./rant

I'm sorry. :( It took lots of tries before I found an SSRI that didn't have unbearable side effects. Just don't give up, as hard as it is. I hope you find one that works soon. *hugs*

I'd give it a few days before you write it off. Sometimes the bad side effects go away after a few days. Lexapro makes me spaced out and numb and drowsy but unable to sleep for the first three or four days and then I'm great. Welbutrin gives me a headache for the first few days I take it but that goes away too.

Sometimes the side effects get worse though, but sometimes they go away. Lexapro and Welbutrin work so well for me. I'm very glad I decided to stick with it a few days to see how it would do. I'd really suggest giving it at least four days to see if it goes away.

The only reason I'd stop one that fast based on a side effect is if I felt much more depressed or suicidal.

meems- Thanks for the kind words. I won't give up!

OliveOilMom- I would normally agree with that, however I am barely able to function right now many hours after puking. I feel very sick, like I have a fever. I got the shakes, a long lasting headache, and my appetite is gone because I feel so bad. The vomiting was rough too, one of my worst. I have never vomitted due to taking an SSRI. The usual side effects are just headaches, apathy, numbess, weight gain or loss, big ups or downs, and a lowered libido. Maybe I will continue taking this drug, but it will be later, and a lower dose. Maybe not, and I will try something else. I am going to a specialist soon, instead of a general practice octor, so I am really hoping that I can get prescribed something besides an SSRI since they don't effect me that well. I am also more depressed now, I feel awful. I was actually supposed to take lexapro, but I was given something else, it wasn't my choice.

I am guessing they put you on Paxil. I had VERY bad reactions to it and it is probably the least well tolerated of the SSRI's. In the end, I went on Wellbutrin and tolerated it much better, even though it made me very chatty and energetic.

If the vomiting was that bad, and if you want to try the drug a little longer, see if they will call you in some Zofran. It's for nausea and it's very, very good. Much better than phenergan and compazine. It doesn't knock you out either like they can. Also, they make a type of it that melts on your mouth and works within five minutes. That should help the nausea.

If the vomiting was that bad, and they won't call you in something, then I'd suggest telling them that you would rather have the lexapro. I was given celexa once instead of lexapro and it made me suicidal. Very suicidal. I'm lucky that I knew that it could do that and remembered that it could, because I was actually making preperations to kill myself in a particularly deadly way when I remembered that the celexa can do that and called the doctor right then and told her what was up. She called in the meds I wanted then. She was one of those who will not give you what you ask for at all. I asked for Welbutrin and Lexapro, she gave me Celexa. I asked for Naprosyn and she gave me Tramadol. I asked for Valium and she gave me Xanax. I didn't go to her long.

That's what made me sick, Celexa. I was supposed to take Lexapro, but that changed last minute. I think I'll take your advice and call up the doc and what we can do. Thanks. I for sure am not going to take another pill just to take an anti-depressant.

Did you take the medicine on an empty stomach or with food?

Yeah don't let the doctors say the side effects appeared too quickly either. The first SSRI I took a week ago. Nearly gave me a heart attack after 4 days of doses. The A&E Doctor took me off after I an ambulance took me in for chest pain and high heart rate.
