When he was promoting Jaws in 1976, Steven Spielberg had a chance encounter with one of his cinematic idols; the idol being Sir Alfred Hitchcock.

Spielberg was delighted to be meeting one of his cinematic idols, but Hitchcock insulted Steven Spielberg by saying:

"Oh...you're the one who made that awful shark movie."

The big chap liked his food. Not sure he liked women all that much. Frenzy is my favourite so far but I must watch more when I am able.

There's a song/instrumental from about 1958 or so called "Tequila." It was done by the Champs.

I miss champ! With mean lightly spiced sausage, baked beans and loads of bread and butter. I'd prefer proper bread - the supermarket mass-produced stuff is what my mother bought. I was brought up on it (as were many English people) but I would take it further in future and go and compare.

I quite like rugbrød - pumpernickel isn't quite right. Hard and unpleasant.

I like English bread much better than US bread.

A decent loaf costs only like a pound at Sainsbury's; whereas a decent loaf of bread in the US costs like $2.50 or so.

You can’t usually smell your own house (or perfume) because of a survival instinct called ‘olfactory adaptation.’ The brain is always looking for new, unusual, or changing smells as a sign of possible danger, so it ignores smells that have become familiar.

The Ancient Egyptian sky god of infinity, eternity, and endlessness is called “Huh.”

Huh has no gender, and can represent as either male or female. Other common names are Heh, Hah, Hauh, Hehu, and Hauhet - which is the name of the feminine Huh.

I never knew that. :o How exactly would one pronounce that?

The ancient Egyptian goddess of nothing/the primal ocean/mother womb motif is called Nen or Nenet.

1958 Helena Rubinstein Tree of Life containing ‘Placene’ which Rubinstein also used in lipsticks. She claimed to be using human placentas to make these cosmetics.

In 2001, Pennsylvania’s Beaver College had to change its name to Arcadia University. Aside from the school being made fun of across the country, they were recruiting 30% fewer students, and anti-porn filters kept blocking access to their website.

Russell and Ron Mael once claimed to be the sons of Doris Day, giving their real names as "Dwight Russell Day" and "J. Ronald Day". Russell also claimed to be part Breton once- while Maël (with the diaresis) is a Breton name, as far as can be ascertained all their grandparents were Eastern European Jews. A friend on Tumblr and I have discussed the origin of the surname, and we think it might have some connection to the name Ishmael (Yishma'el in Hebrew) or possibly to the occupation of mohel (ritual circumciser!).

The phrase ‘Ye Olde’ is fairly new- but you’re saying it wrong. In the late 1800s, businesses used it to sound ‘old timey,’ but the 'ye’ is actually pronounced 'the.’ The confusion comes from an old letter for 'th’ that eventually started being written as a 'y.’ At first, everyone knew the 'y’ was a 'th,’ but over time, the word was confused with the old version of 'you,’ like what’s used in the Bible and 'O Come, All Ye Faithful,’ so people just started pronouncing it 'ye’ instead.
