I can barely type well; somehow, I can type fast but I can't rest my hands on the home keys or not look up to the screen when I type. I have to repeatedly glance at the screen while I type; also, I can type with both hands but only because of a typing CD my mom bought me.

I could never stand to ask Zoe, let alone to do so quickly. I always looked down to type, but I'm starting to be able to look up and go by memory. Shows how much time I spend on the comp.

I can type without looking but either way I usually type too fast and hit all the letters but not in correct order or sometimes I hit the space key before my other hand has a chance to type the last letter of a word. Like I almost always type "autsim" instead of autism and I have to correct that which is annoying because I type that word alot (lol). So I usually have to go back and correct for spelling because I've jumbled the order of the letters. Because I can read that way though I tend not to notice so sometimes I will even read something over for mistakes like that and not "see" them.

I have to look. If I use the same keyboard all the time I can remember the keys better, because I know their juxtapositions but I still mess up and have to look, especially when I make an error, so I usually don't bother try to type without looking. I can't keep my fingers/hands in position with those little things on the J and F; they're way too small (to reach most of the keys). I had the same kind of difficulties trying to learn piano, but the more I practice things like this, the easier they become, as long as the instrument stays the same:)

Since I spend the vast majority of my free time on my computer and I have for at least the past ten years, I can type very well. I type very quickly, I don't have to look at the keys (it's almost as if my fingers have memorized where the keys are - if you asked me to describe where a particular key is located I probably wouldn't be able to tell you, but if you gave me a keyboard I'd be able to find the key right away with my hands), and I rarely make errors (but when I do, it's almost as if my hands notice before I even read the screen - I instinctively hit the backspace key).

Does anyone else have trouble typing? I have been programming professionally for about five years now and I still have to look at the keys as I type. I mean, I can still type fairly fast this way, but it can be embarrassing in front of other developers. I'm just wondering if this is an "Aspie" trait or just me. I assume that most programmers picked up typing naturally, but maybe a typing class would help.

Do you lay your finger's on the keyboard the right way as in using the - then getting a feel from where the key's are I can use the keyboard shutting my eye's then pressing the keyboard with 2 hand finger taping without using the - key sets basicly learning to type basic up to been able to type without even looking where I start off at but grammer and that out the window but I don't really care as in the programming software most of it is tellesence so basicly I find it even more easyier than typing here as all the info comes up on screen plus you don't need to type out the hole stuff but let the software write it for you but that said

“ Even experts screw up mainly coz most of us or nearly all of us are dyslexic “

But I would say just using a word program and learning the feel of your hands, I did look at the keyboard allot before …

Fine motor dyspraxia throws me off with my typing a bit, but as least it is not as bad as my handwriting. The page of my handwriting is often typically riddled with spelling mistakes and messy corrections. For that fact I could not learn to play a guitar as a teenager as much as I would have loved to learn, because I just kept playing bad chords. But thank goodness for MS spell check when it comes to typing.

I'm the worst typer I know. I'm so slow, which is why most of the time my posts are short ones.

I'm generally a good typer - I look at the screen. I have been known to type too fast for the buffer.

I generally type at a speed of around 30 words per minute. I can touch-type, and often do so in the dark. However, when I do I often make mistakes on account of my poor vision. These often don't get rectified until after I've pressed the submit button! Also, I can be on autopilot. Occasionally people come back to me and ask about things I never thought I'd actually typed in the first place. For obvious reasons this can put me in a somewhat awkward position.

I am a one-fingered typist, and look at the keys, using the index finger of my left hand for the "shift" key. I am pretty fast at typing that way, but it is still a very slow way of typing. On the other hand, I almost always know when I've made a mistake, so the final result is usually error-free.

My typing is way too slow to be able to keep up in the chat room, so I no longer try :(

My typing issue is typing socially!

I remember when I first started working as a programmer, one of the most embarrassing things was that I couldn't type and talk at the same time. Especially when starting a new job I was spending a lot of time with other people having them show me things and me show them things. Typing and talking just didn't mix for me... I found I had to either stop talking or stop typing... doing both at the same time I would make horrible typing mistakes. But everyone else didn't seem to have any problem doing it.

It's clear now that I know I have Aspergers that this is the multitasking difficulties rearing their head.

I look at the key board but can type fairly quick, i cant type nearly as quick with one hand as two and only use my left hand for keys across from e,d and c.
I often have probs with the shift key and k and z becuase they have spilled bourbon and cola in them and they stick.

I type very fast, but I use my right hand to type all the keys and the left hand is used only for capitalizing. And I type at a much slower pace if I use both hands.
